Is the foreshadowing of being given a possession to inhabit the land God gave to Israel the same as possessing what we have been given through Christ Jesus to possess?

Deuteronomy 8:1-3
1 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Matthew 4:4
But he answered and said , It is written , Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

I'm amazed that there have been no comments and/or agreements to this possession that is so precious to us through Christ Jesus. I thought it would be interesting for God's elect when we understand the greatness of this gift. I'll let it go then.

Hi Brother Just-me,

I haven't been around on the forums in a while. Today I decided to scroll through and saw this message.
I've honestly been thinking a lot about the correlations between the Hebrews entering in and possessing the land, and us entering in through Christ Jesus. I was really happy to see this message!

I've been studying about these things actually. Not only about entering in but staying in the land, peace in the land and watching at the gates!

Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

God's word is amazing! I love how He instructs us from beginning to end.

Wonderful topic!!!

WOW!! It is so good to see you. Things are going better these days. Our Lord is truly wonderful in giving us truth to think about and to meditate on. We are to possess our salvation and take care of it according to His divine word and instructions that are everlasting.

This is so parallel to salvation it is uncanny! We are not saved by our own righteousness just as Jesus taught and all the apostles taught. It is by God's righteousness and loving grace toward us that we can possess that which God has given. There is no other way to possess our salvation other than living by what He has created through Christ Jesus from the beginning. Nothing else will work. NOTHING!

Deuteronomy 9:4-6
4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying , For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.
5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6 Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

By His grace and His grace alone do we have this possession called salvation. We, however, must endeavor to live His way to keep it and to take care of it.

post #5 I've known it for a long time. You just didn't pick that up because of other's input and distortion of the truth. I received the truth the same year that you did. 1972. It's just that I wanted to learn more so I esteem the Old Testament as well as the new. It has been very enlightening to see the dynamic truth of the new.

Amen Just-me,

The bible is filled with patterns that carry through from beginning to end. Considering all aspects when seeking to comprehend the things that God has for us; His will and His way and through the revelations that HE gives us, He opens doors to more and more understanding and gives us wisdom that only comes from above. The more I study, search, seek and pray the more the word opens up and the patterns become more evident. I believe that is true for all who seek Him with their whole heart who desire to walk in His will.

One part of what I have been studying is the manna in the wilderness.

Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Even by the manna that God gave them, He said, that they should gather a certain rate every day, that He might prove them, to see if they would walk in His law, (His will by faith is what I see in this,) or if they would not. His will, because all of God's instruction is about His will rather than our own flesh ruling.

So God proved Himself by giving them manna, and he proved the people by how they gathered it.

Exodus 16:15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
Exodus 16:16 This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
Exodus 16:17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
Exodus 16:18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

It came down to their faith in God to provide their food each and every day. The words in vs. 18, "No lack," go right along with the 23 Psalm Vs. 1.

Psalms 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

A psalm of David: ADONAI is my shepherd; I lack nothing. (CJB)

He proved them at the waters of Marah, (Exodus 15:23-26)

He also added the benefits that if they would diligently hearken to the voice of the God, and if they would do what was right in HIS sight, (being not only hearers but doers of HIS word,) that he would put none of the diseases upon them, that He had brought upon the Egyptians. He included, “For I am the LORD that healeth thee." We also know that Jesus brought much healing when He walked among men on this earth. The blind received sight, there were dead who were raised, and He cast out demons etc... Back to Exodus 15: So God proved Himself to the people, (Not that we are to test HIM) but God did show them His works, and He would prove them by their faithfulness to His words/commands, whether they would hear Him or not.

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

It's always come down to faith in God, whether we would believe Him, and understand that in Christ there is no lack. These things were foreshadows, and although many will completely disregard the things written of in the "ot", they hold true and are very good for our own learning and understanding the ways and the will of our Heavenly Father and our desire to be pleasing in His sight. Jesus made the way, and was involved in all of the testings in the wilderness.

It's also a wonderful way to examine our own hearts, where our faith is. Do we really believe that in HIM there is no lack?
Will we hold to that faith or be shaken by our own doubts as the Hebrew in the wilderness were many times.

I'm thankful that God has given us so many examples of trusting in Him, and we can hold those same examples up when our own faith is shaken and examine our own hearts. This is required of each of us, from the Jew to the gentile.

We see the connection and the relationship in what Paul said here:

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

It's interesting to note, that before they entered into the promised land, that they wandered in the wilderness being given instruction, tested and proved. Most of the original people who came out of Egypt didn't enter in save Caleb and Joshua, and we see their faith in God exhibited in the wilderness...(It is written.)

So many great examples for us. :)

In my house it is a taste of heaven on earth in that I have peace that passes all understanding and no fear at least when all the hurricanes where passing through back in 2004/2005 I had no fear but total trust that God was in control of all things and I just rested in Him during all those storms.

I try and continue to rest when other trials come along too it has been nice to submit to Him and allow Him to work in my life helping me to overcome things I could never take care of on my own. Even though still a struggle at times these things seem so much easier to deal with knowing God is with me. I am so thankful for His presence and His strength. He is also helping me with annoyances and getting angry and keeping that in check as I learn to lean fully on Him.

The world still rages on around me but I walk in peace knowing God is with me all the time and it is true the statement perfect love casts out all fear. So while I am still in the world my heart is in heaven with God and God is walking with me here on earth. Wish I could be like Enoch and just walk into heaven with Dad. Would be a wonderful thing - this Blond can hope for such a walk.

Deuteronomy 6:1-13
1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down , and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

Enduring to the end is the wilderness experience of the real Christian. Such endurance is where we are totally dependent on God for it is the work faith with power. This is why the unrepentant will never enter the kingdom, they never found saving faith. Without repentance all a sinner has is bread alone.

The children in the market of the day of Jesus were unable to perceive such things just as the market dwellers in the modern day. The world has blinded their eyes. The kingdom of heaven must be forcefully taken, there is a diligent effort involved. An effort which is often maligned by the deaf and blind as somehow infringing upon the glory of God, in that they perceive it as deifying man. Yet the truth is that God is glorified in those who manifest the fruit of the Spirit for they are a living testimony to His power and love.

For the carnal mind things are not what they appear.

Here you go...

Mat 11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
Mat 11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Mat 11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Mat 11:7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
Mat 11:8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
Mat 11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
Mat 11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mat 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Mat 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
Mat 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Mat 11:14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Mat 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mat 11:16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
Mat 11:17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
Mat 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Mat 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Mat 11:20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
Mat 11:21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Mat 11:22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
Mat 11:23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Mat 11:24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
Mat 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Mat 11:26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Very good.

That is the mark of God and it is the very opposite of the mark of the beast which is dispensed to the mind as a gift in the modern system.

Both marks are indications of ownership.

Who is it that we belong to? Are we in bondage to Christ or bondage to Satan? Whom we obey is the indicator, it be one or the other. The yolk of Christ is a blessing and brings freedom, the yolk of sin may mouth freedom (do what thou wilt) yet brings bondage.

Numbers 21:8-9
8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

2 kings 18:1-4
1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign ; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made : for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

Nehushtan=5180 Nchushtan nekh-oosh-tawn' from 5178; something made of copper, i.e. the copper serpent of the Desert:--Nehushtan.

Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

2 Corinthians 12:19-21
15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you ; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved . 16 But be it so , I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
17 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you?
18 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?
19 Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
20 For I fear , lest , when I come, I shall not find you such as I would , and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed .

2 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.
7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

Jesus in our own Image

Hebrews 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Do we as professing Christians make Jesus in our own image?

Do we want Him to be someone other than what He desires?

Interesting article Just-me, I had no idea of these events took place. It actually makes a lot of sense given the situation in Germany at that time...They even tried to deny the blood line of which Christ would come and tried to outright deny that He was born into this world, a Jew.

It's amazing how our own ideas and our own hearts can set up walls that block our understanding. And how the truth can be changed to a lie by omitting certain parts of a whole message.

I believe this is why God's word says that we shall not add nor take away from it. And even when we do study the word we have to remember that our own ideas mean nothing, (seeking Him in that childlike manner.)

This brings Isaiah 55 to mind.

Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
