"The four. Trchetypal personalities or the four aspects of the soul are grouped in two pairs: the ego and the shadow, the persona and the soul's image (animus or anima). The shadow is the container of all our despised emotions repressed by the ego. Lucky, the shadow serves as the polar opposite of the egocentric Pozzo, prototype of prosperous mediocrity, who incessantly controls and persecutes his subordinate, thus symbolising the oppression of the unconscious shadow by the despotic ego.......er.......uh......what?

LOL...mkay.

Ego here, ego there, ego ego everywhere.

postmodernism (injected into Christianity) is just existentialism.

i can't know anything and i don't want to, but i want to sound cool.
and i want to follow my passions.

it's demonic.

that is the negative side of postmodernism's influence on the church...

however on the positive side postmodernism can make people much more open to the question of 'how do they know?' when it comes to 'science' proclaiming that we all came from primordial soup...

modernism only questioned -our- truth...postmodernism questions -everyone's- truth...making it much more neutral and less inherently hostile to the gospel...

maybe some examples of people who exemplify each school of thought would help sort out the positives and negatives...

a good representative of 'premodernism' would be martin luther...sola scriptura...and open to reason but with reason always subservient to scripture... in modern times this point of view is well represented by people like john macarthur...and ken ham of answers in genesis...

representatives of modernism abound...darwin in biology...lyell in geology...marx in economics and sociology...freud in psychology... key representatives of the modernist school nowdays are richard dawkins on the atheistic side...john shelby spong on the overtly heretical side in the church...and francis collins and peter enns of the biologos foundation on the covert church infiltrating side...

a good representative of postmodernism would be deepak chopra...who is skeptical of darwinism and materialistic reductionism and more open to spiritual concepts on the one hand...but is also prone to superstition and mysticism on the other hand... the negative side of postmodernism is represented in the church by members of the 'emergent church' movement such as rob bell and brian mclaren and scot mcknight... some of the helpful aspects of postmodernism are represented by dr. jason lisle of the institute for creation research...who is not a postmodernist himself...but whose 'worldview' approach to issues of biblical authority is especially understandable for both 'premodernists' and postmodernists...

Thank you Rachel and everyone else, I have a better idea what I'm might be up against. I have a better understanding of postmodernism now...

More neutral? Their proclamation is closer to 'there is no truth' (except of course, that proclamation) which makes it antithetical to Jesus saying ''I AM THE TRUTH. Two steps removed and over the cliff. :)

i find denying objective truth...what postmodernism does...to be less harmful than asserting something as objective truth that is counter to christianity...which is what modernism does...

postmodernism could be compared to the attitude of pontius pilate...who was at least somewhat interested in giving jesus a fair hearing... modernism is comparable to the attitude of the pharisees...they had their own beliefs and they didn't appreciate jesus disagreeing with them...

Denying objective Truth would be denying God.Pontius struck me as cynical and the Pharisees at least took a stand, albeit wrong.

that sounds good in theory rachel, but that is not how it's turning out.
unless you can show me examples.

the emergents have gone off the rails in every instance.
no solid truth.
just flux continually.
no roots. and all entertainment and self.
that's what i'm seeing....been watching this stuff for a few years now.

Presuppositionalism is a good start for resolving the whole modern/postmodern issue.
