Interesting ,I like it.
I wonder how it would be communicated/interpreted in layman's terms.
the only thing we can control is now.
the past has paSsed. the future is not now.
if we let go of past hurts, and enjoy this moment,
we can at least feel peace about the future.
(someone said the original quote. kudos to you if you know)

I dunno... When you phrase it that way it sounds kind of cynical.
Lol, now that you point that out , ya… I can see that…
On the ohter hand, I suspect that if the focus is upon 'expectations', while we will often interact with all walks of life where some tend to be more contentious than others - I read it as a 'be prepared to do good in everything' - but don't expect everyone to respond as positively as you would hope... ie having 'no expectations' of others prepares us for the inevitable negative interactions... But or by having no expectations - we might be better inclined to not take those negative responses personally...

When I read it I am reminded of the ol' Mother Teresa quote:

"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God;
it was never between you and them anyway."

You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang

Sing it anyway

Here? Usually neither. Nobody ever really wins an argument here, at least not that I have seen. You can get somebody else to agree with you so you can feel like you are proven right by consensus, but those mean, nasty people who disagreed with you will never admit you are right. What a bunch of idiots THEY are...
