Point-of-view (POV) is the context of every story ever written. If you don't know whose POV, you won't get the story.

Today I read something from King David's POV. Think of his life as you read this.

Psalm 116
1 I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!"
5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.
6 The LORD preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling;
9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
10 I believed, even when I spoke: "I am greatly afflicted";
11 I said in my alarm, "All mankind are liars."
12 What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
14 I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16 O LORD, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.
18 I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!

Man! Didn't that just capture his life perfectly in so few words?

And then I read something from Jesus' POV. Think of him as you read this --

This reminds me of rules for interpreting the bible correctly-

sorting out:

who is speaking to whom
where and when are they speaking
what is the occasion
what is the subject

Bible Analysis-- an old book by Albert Garner is real good for this.. made in 1956.. has been reprinted in Texarkana Sunday School literature. Bogard Press. :)

the 'author's, (everyone's) point of view is up for everyone's personal interpretation,..

all who read find their own value in their own interpretation...

what is that worth, if our Saviour's Heart isn't in the mix???

Hey, hey, hey! Since when is 1956 "old?" That wasn't too long ago. lol

So, since I haven't read it, and you have, how well did this match that? I'm thinking we don't really have chronological order for Psalms, and, in this case, it's not attributed to anyone. I merely think it belongs to David, if it's not attributed.

Sorry folks about calling 1956 old :)

In regards to Psalms for doing contextual study.. you can link Psalms to points in David's life of when he was responding to certain situations. For example there was a Psalm when he wrote about repenting to God for his sins because of when he sent out a man to be killed so he could claim the man's wife.

There are victorious Psalms when David had led an army to overcome .. or when he had escaped the clutches of his enemies.

But yah.. it obvious who is speaking to whom with this one.. David to God !

But what is the occasion? That is not as easy to pin point with psalms.. altho you do get bibles with little headings above psalms to denote what the occasion is.

In my POV anything written before my birth is consider by me to be "old".

Lol.

Anything older than the Bible is considered "ancient"

Me too! Except 1956 is the year I was born. 1955 = old. 1956 = young. lol

You know you are getting old when you get up in the morning and look for your slippers, and Mama finds them on your feet.

Mama's grandmother said that you were old when you had more grey hair than dark hair. She died at 98 and I never saw her with a single grey hair.
