I am in the Military and stationed away from my family. My wife found a marijuana pipe in my sons room today and he says it isn't his but he does admit using Pot. He says that pot isn't a big deal and that he won't get caught using it.If he does get caught he will only get probation. I talked with him again tonight and gave him an ultimatum that he has to quit using and also agree to take random urinalysis test or we will stop assisting him with paying his gas, phone & help with car repairs. He left and said that he doesn't care he can make it on his own. I gave him until tomorrow evening to decide.

I pray that he makes the right decision and ask that everyone pray for the same.

Warmest greetings, Sarge,

I hear you! I know it is hard for you being in the military (thank you, first and foremost, for your service to our country) and stationed someplace not near to your family especially when you have encountered something like what you are speaking to us about. I think many folks in your son's age group think that indeed there is nothing to it in smoking pot since they have heard of others doing it with little or no repercussions. However, two or more wrongs do not make a right!

You might try talking to him about the other young people who thought it was 'no big deal' in using pot and then went on to become serious addicts and some even caused injury to others or ended their own life due to it. There can be no doubt that if he is living under your roof and since he is not 18 yet, he needs to abide by the rules both you and your wife have set out for him. Absent that, you might wish to consider him seeing a counselor or clergy who can truly speak to him about the dangers in using illegal drugs.

As for him wanting to leave after you gave him that ultimatum, my gut instinct is that he is just being defiant and perhaps wanting to call your bluff on that. But little does he realize or understand that this is a much more serious problem that since you love him as your son are trying to seriously address in order to help him back from the wayward path he is on.

Of course if you back down from your ultimatum he will more than likely consider that a weakness on your part and that can't be good. So, you have to make the ultimate decision about how you are going to handle this situation with your son and bring both sensitivity as well as FIRMNESS to the situation.

I, for one, will surely be praying for you and your son on this! May God help you to choose your words and that his heart will open up to the truth that you are trying to reveal to him.

Hi Sarge.... I thank God foremost for putting in your heart to protect our country and family... I first and foremost lift not only you, but your entire family up to God.. For Hos safe keeping in and over you and your family... He is the true keeper over all of us... Like a faithful father does he allows us to slip away from him by our own free will... He does not chase after us but instead let's us go... as a mother if two boys one twenty three and one twenty one ... I too traveled down this oath you are now on... god does not enable us to have our behavior , he holds the promises of His blessings in his hands ... He doesn't strike us with them not does he provoke us with them... He simply tells us... when you have decided to return to me, my full blessings will be here waiting for you... He does not yell at us nor does He tear us down for doing it...instead He tells us we can return to Him at any time .... He also revealed in my despairing thoughts as a failing parent , that He is the perfect Father and still had two disobedient children...I also found that during the trial God was looking at my heart too... Not just my sons... things that came from the trial to me were
do you think you are bigger than me to handle this? Because I will let you
do you trust me enough to guide you're son back to me or are you bigger than me and going to do it yourself? Because I will let you
do you have confidence in me that I can? or only confidence in what man can do?
are you going to ask me for help? Or trust others can help you better?
Who do you believe is in control? You? The drugs? people? Or me?
Who are you going to cry out to with your emotions? if you think someone else can handle them better than me , be careful... They have their own burden and worry ... I can mange and handle your emotional outrage better than anyone.
who are you going to go for counseling to for this? A person, a friend, or me?
Who do you believe you're son really belongs to? you? Or Me? I gave Him to you and I also made you... I know both of your steps before anyone else...

What I thought was .... My son has a problem... In the midst of it I found out that I had some problems too... My relationship with God was very very weak...
I'm here to tell you that since relinquishing my rights just as Christ did ... handed everything up to God including my sons... My son who was not only struggling with drugs but alcohol as well is now married, has a baby, and has a Christian bible study in his families home.. put your confidence and trust in God...it's all about the relationship....I will be praying God puts followers of Christ along your path and your sons... inpray he keeps his angels charge over you... In our weakness He issas strong... In our frailties we call out to Him and begin to see what He can do for and through us...god is not aam that He should lie... It is written ! Jeremiah 29:11
For I
Know tue plans I have for you says the lord, plans to
Prosper you Nd not harm you, plans tonbring you hope and a future...
It is also written ... I will never NO NEVER, leave you nor forsake you, NO NEVER WILL I!!!

Some other thongs were revealed on Tje road in Tjis journey with my son...his relationship with Christ was not dependent upon me.. However I was not mirroring the imaging of Christ to Hom because of blockage in my own life... I had anger issue stemming from hurts in my own past I had not given God Tje time of day or trusted Him enough to heal...
in a class I took God helped reveal some truths about emotions I had lived without of my life...

Anger - an emotional alarm That went off when I wasn't releasing gods forgiveness or mercy to people ... Tjis indicated a blockage and a truth that I did not dully know or understand gods forgiveness and mercy towards me... His
His forgiveness in all I had done wrong didn't give me what I really deserved... And His mercy towards what I had done wring gave me more than I deserved... This is Gods grace.... And because I dis not come to know this I wasn't able to release it to my son...

Fear- another emotional alarm That goes off and becomes
Present in us when wr "believe" something or someone other than God is in control...

Loneliness- yet another emotional alarm- screeching in our eat that we are not having enough time in Gods presence ... It's all about tue relationship...

Anxiety and stress- a huge alarm !! when we believe or have bought into the lie that we don't need to ask for Gods help in something... if we ignor this alarm the stress and anxiety of handling it ourselves will become so great we can be crushed under the weight of it.. God allows this so we call out to Him and remain dependent in His ability and not our own...

I hope and pray this strengthens your relationship in Christ.. Comforts you in Him, through this journey... No one is exempt from being used by God to draw us and others closer to Him... It is all for the Glory of His greater good ..
It is written "REST and know I am God". I knew you before you were a speck in my eye...
Peace in Christ
Michelle

Father thank you for putting it on his heart to do the right thing in Jesus name amen

Sarge, you have my compassion, my deep gratitude for your service to this nation, and my heartfelt prayers for your family.
There is a book I recommend to those of us struggling with raising adolescents in this world. It's called "Losing Control and Linkng It" by Tim Sanford.
He is a brother in the faith and a counselor by profession. It doesn't resolve the immediate issue, but I found it very helpful when my children were younger.
Just a thought. :)

Meantime, I will surely be in prayer over this with you and your wife, and with all the family here.

Re: Pray for my seventeen year old Son

I want to thank you all for you're prayers. It has been a stressful day but I believe we have made some progress. I have read everyones responses and will look at them and take away from each of them the wisdom that you have offered. God Bless and thank you all.

May Yahvah God and Yahshua the Messiah fill your son with strength, comfort and guidance to overcome this temptation.

Your son, you and all your family are in my prayers in Jesus.
I know as a parent how hard the tough decissions can be, and how much you just want to be there and take hold of your son and not let go.
My husband and I went through a difficult time with our son a few years ago, for our son? it was a woman peditor who was almost my age.
All we wanted to do was to hold on to our son in every way, but we knew this would simply drive him farther away.
We gave him to Jesus, prayed and called all we could to pray with us. I see you are already doing this. :)
Thankfully , Jesus saved him from the terrible situation he was in, and now, a few years later,he has gotten his life back on track, has met a wonderful young woman who loves all he loves( we never thought he would find a woman who loves trucks more than him) :), and they hope to marry one day when they know they are ready. :)
I just wanted for you to know that we need to trust our children to Jesus, He will watch over them.

Your son will remain in my daily prayers in Jesus, as long as he needs.

God bless

hello Sarge, you are definitely trying to do the right thing and be a good dad...one thing to consider is that one of the effects of marijuana is to give the user a nonchalant attitude and an idea they dont have to worry about anything...you cannot change that effect till your son is off the marijuana for awhile and I dont think he wants to be off the marijuana nomatter what

We are blessed to have each other here...
