Peace in the middle east seems completely elusive considering its long history. So much so that we have become insensitive to the news about the wars and injustices. This time it is different. It is much worse.
The reports say terrorist groups are forcing Christians out of Iraq if they do not convert to Islam. Otherwise, they must die. They have even begun marking Christian houses for slaughter. Some reports say women are being raped in front of their families, children have been beheaded, and people are sentenced to crucifixion.
This is what Revd Canon Andrew White says, "It is as if hell has broken out here and nobody cares." We care, don't we? We care for our brothers and sisters abroad enough to pray for them. Please pray with me now.
Oh Most High God, Please help the Christians in Iraq. Help them to stand firm on the faith. Give them courage. Help them to get somewhere safe. Bring justice to these families. Quench their fear and fill them with Your Spirit from on high. Awaiting the Return of Your Son, Amen.
