My knees are both quite bad because of RA and OA damage. Plus, in August something soft tissue went wrong. So, I made an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon, my family doctor's office fumbled the ball, it took 2 months to get off the referral, then 3 months waiting to see him. I have to get cortisone shots, and if I walk straight it is not bad, but if I pivot, it feels like someone ripped my knee apart.
So, I finally got my appointment this morning. The doctor was rude and arrogant. Said he would't operate on me, because of my RA and meds. What?? People with RA get operated on all the time. Our knees get destroyed by the RA and then the OA secondary to the RA. He said he would expect me to go off my RA meds for 3 months, 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after. I had my foot reconstructed in 2009, an much more difficult surgery and recovery (yes, I had RA!) and I only had to go off a week before and a week after. And I was in horrific pain from the RA.
He told me to go to a knee clinic and get some exercises to do. Like I don't already do many exercises from the time my knee was dislocated. The catch? There is NO knee clinic in my town anymore.
So, I am stuck! I need knee surgery and now I have to start over with referrals, and stupid arrogant doctors. My son has a friend who is an orthopedic surgeon, but 4 hour drive plus a ferry and expensive hotels. And many trips needed to be taken that distance over and over. But, he is pretty arrogant, too!
Please pray God will give me wisdom to know what to do next. I can barely walk across the room without agonizing pain. But, oh, "you can't die of arthritis in your knee!" That was his opening and closing lines! Sure!
Please no name it and claim it posts! Just some honest and sincere prayers about God's direction for my life, with regards to this knee! Thanks!
