Hi all,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who, like me, did not pray with the heart but in time started to pray with the heart. I know that God knows the condition of my heart and I pray anyway and I pray that he will open my heart so that I can pray better and live better. But I know that my heart is not open when I pray and I've prayed that my heart be open to both Jesus and Mary.

Anyway, just wondering if there are any others that have difficulty praying with the heart, and those that do pray with the heart, do you have any advice?

It simply means praying with a sincere heart. The following parable is an example that Jesus gave...

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Hi Rosewater. As long as your heart wants to please God while you are praying and your mind is not wandering continuously to other things, then your prayer is pleasing to God.
