I know, I know, not this again, but I have found some very eye opening information.

Tommy Ice Director of the Pre-Trib Research Center (www.pre-trib.org), has pointed out:

"The Greek noun, apostasia, is used only twice in the New Testament. The other occurrence is in Acts 21:21 where it states that an accusation was made against Paul that he was “teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake [apostasia] Moses.”

The word is used in verb form a total of 15 times in the New Testament, and only three of these have anything to do with a departure from the faith (Luke 8:13, 1 Timothy 4:1, and Hebrews 3:12). In other settings, the word is used for departing from inquity (2 Timothy 2:19), departing from ungodly men (1 Timothy 6:5), departing from the temple (Luke 2:27), departing from the body (2 Corinthians 12:8), and departing from persons (Acts 12:10 and Luke 4:13).

This insight about the use and meaning of the word was certainly compelling, but the argument Tommy presented that was most convicting to me was his revelation that the first seven English translations of the Bible rendered the noun, apostasia, as either “departure” or “departing.”

They were as follows:

1). The Wycliffe Bible (1384)
2). The Tyndale Bible (1526)
3). The Coverdale Bible (1535)
4). The Cranmer Bible (1539)
5). The Great Bible (1540)
6). The Beeches Bible (1576)
7). The Geneva Bible (1608)

Tommy also noted that the Bible used by the Western world from 400 AD to the 1500s — Jerome’s Latin translation known as “The Vulgate” — rendered apostasia with the Latin word, discessio, which means “departure.”

So, why did the King James translators introduce a completely new rendering of the word as “falling away”? The best guess is that they were taking a stab at the false teachings of Catholicism.

The Jesuit Ribera read 2 Thess 2:3-4 and took the words "temple of God" to mean a literal rebuilt temple in Jerusalem instead of the view of the reformers that the "temple of God" was referring to the Church, because, of course, the body is the temple. (1 Corinthians 6:19, John 2:21). If anything, the view of the reformers was more inventive (requiring a sort of spiritualized substitution of words) than Ribera's view!

It is obvious that we must agree that something true, such as 2+2=4, remains true, even when such a truth is spoken by a liar, or the most evil man.

Paul used a definite article with the word apostasia. The significance of this is emphasized by Daniel Davey in a thesis he wrote for the Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary:

"Since the Greek language does not need an article to make the noun definite, it becomes clear that with the usage of the article, reference is being made to something in particular. In 2 Thessalonians 2:3 the word apostasia is prefaced by the definite article which means that Paul is pointing to a particular type of departure clearly known to the Thessalonian church. In light of this grammatical point," the use of the definite article would support the notion that Paul spoke of a clear, discernable notion. And that notion he had already identified in verse 1 when he stated that he was writing about “our gathering together to Him [Jesus].”

That is exactly what it says (literally "from standing/departyre/leaving)

But will anyone agree LOL

I doubt it LOL

I know, I know, not this again, but I have found some very eye opening information.

I have gone over that scenario myself many times. The word "Apostasia" is defined as follows:

apostasia: defection, revolt
Original Word: ἀποστασία, ας, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: apostasia
Phonetic Spelling: (ap-os-tas-ee'-ah)
Short Definition: defection, apostasy
Definition: defection, apostasy, revolt.

apostasía (from 868 /aphístēmi, "leave, depart," which is derived from 575 /apó, "away from" and 2476 /histémi, "stand") – properly, departure (implying desertion); apostasy – literally, "a leaving, from a previous standing."

For all who are reading this, IS, is suggesting that the 2 Thes.2:3 is claiming that the word "apostasia" is defined as departing up into the air to meet the Lord, opposed to rebellion, a departing from the faith. As much as I tried to get this word to say that in my studies, I was unable to do so. You can't make the word "Apostasia" to mean departing up into the air. It just can't be used that way, as can be seen by the definition of the word above.

Furthermore, if Paul wanted to convey the idea of departing up into the air to meet the Lord, he would have used the word that he had used twice before which is the word "Harpazo" translated as "Caught up" or "Snatched up." He used this word when describing the resurrection and "catching away" of the church and when he was "Caught up" to the third heaven. Therefore, Paul would not use the word "Apostasia" which is defined as rebellion, revolt, etc., to convey the idea of being caught up to meet the Lord in the air. When trying to use this word to mean departing up into the air, it would distort the scripture as follows:

Here is the actual scripture (NIV)

"Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction."

Bellow is what the scripture would be saying if "Apostasia" was interpreted to mean departing up into the air.

"Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for the day when we are gathered to the Lord will not come until we depart and are gathered to the Lord and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

Now, I've paraphrased the above scripture to show that the word "Apostasia" cannot be speaking of our "departing" to meet the Lord in the air. The following are the renderings of the major translations, with most pointing to a departure from faith:

Comical how you actually post the literal meaning then go into a mental maze to make it say what you want.

If you are going to defend it as the traditional rendering,I have no problem with that. I can read it as literal,or as "falling away" It is not a pivotal issue.

What I specifically find comical is that in your hypothetical renderings, you never gave the actual LITERAL translation.

Here is the actual scripture (NIV)

"Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction."

NIV had a homosexual on the board of translators.
You have not posted the ACTUAL anything.

n.

This mish mash is what I am talking about. (For "departure" ,you insert ;"will not come until we depart and are gathered to the Lord")

IOW it literally says "departure".
I have no problem with it. Postribs do.

I agree...the word means a complete standing off from the truth and I even coined a word (apostatization) of humanity and it is tied to the man of sin being revealed........I personally believe it is tied to the image being set and all of humanity making the final choice to choose God or choose the beast and his system.....when humanity has reached a particular point in it's apotatization the man of sin shall be revealed..the beast.....<----that is how it comes across!

How do you reconcile that view with verse 6 and 7 of II Thess. 2, which seems to clearly state that it is the church that prevents the man of sin from being revealed and will continue preventing until it be removed?

Also, by the time the image/abomination is set up, the wrath of God (seals, trumpets and bowls), will have been well under way.

The church of Jesus Christ is never referred to as 'he'. I believe that it is the Holy Spirit that hinders and prevent him from coming, and since the Spirit is within the church then us as well.

That seems to make sense. The Holy Spirit will never leave nor forsake us, so he will be here as long as we are.

I suggest two things....

1. Re-read the verses you cite as NO where does it say THE church is preventing the man of sin from being revealed...it uses the personal pronoun HE and the church is not identified as a HE...
2. What you are regurgitating is the opinion of men that have been pushed so as to try and support the imminent return of Christ which is false...

Then who is withholding the man of sin until he be taken away?

Then we both agree. You refuse to acknowledge the literal rendering, and defend what may or may not be accurate.

A literal translation helps to understand...

Letteth=hold down, possess, retain, take or seize
Let=have or hold fast
taken=cause to be, to become, come into being, to arise to finish

2 Thessalonians 2:6-8[SUP]6 [/SUP]And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Only he that now possesses or holds down will have or hold fast until he comes into being or arises

My view.....the beast is empowered by Satan, but Satan cannot delegate and or give the power behind the beast until the beast arrives on the scene! He will hold fast that power until the one who is to be the beast arises (is born, matures and when it is time) is my view...

I used to believe the same old regurgitated view, but the HS does not make sense as people are saved through the tribulation period and that is impossible if the Holy Spirit has been removed.....

So who is taken away, not Satan?

You are saying that Satan is withholding until the time, but the scripture says he will withhold until he be taken away. Who is taken away?

Taken away is a English King James translation by Episcopalian priests.....

taken=cause to be, to become, come into being, to arise to finish<-----GREEK WORD

1st century Greek-----> Until HE ARISES or COMES INTO BEING.......NOT taken away!
