Swept back into office for a Second term by voters who believed in him and his policies for the country, TIME Magazine names President Barack Obama as Person of the Year! This makes the Second time TIME has given him this most prestigious award title.

The "prestigious" Time Magazine "Man of the Year" award is not necessarily something to take pride in. Time picks a person (or a group of people, as has happened a few times in the past) who has been most influential in the last year. This doesn't necessarily mean the person or people selected are to be respected. Here are a few past "Time Man of the Year" awards. I hope this list helps you to put their selection of Mr. Obama in perspective.

1938 - Adolf Hitler
1939 AND 1942 - Joseph Stalin (yep, two times!)
1956 - Hungarian freedom fighter
1966 - "Twenty-five and under" (hippies)
1975 - American women
1982 - The computer
2006 - "You"

It should also be noted that EVERY new president who is elected (as far as I can tell ... my history isn't as good between about 1950 and 1965 ... this is the period that was considered too recent to be taught as history when I was growing up, but what I don't actually remember) is automatically given MOTY status. Some re-elected presidents are also named for the 2nd term they win (this is not consistent).

I'm not saying Obama is evil, or that he's really great ... I don't think he's either. Just pointing out that getting the Time Man of the Year award is no glowing praise. It's simply a statement of fact: love him or hate him, he's highly influential.
 
I happen to agree with time. It does seem rather propagandist, but I fail to see who stood out this year in an objective sense.

As long as he doesn't get another Peace Prize.
 
I don't think it should be allowed for him to be the person of the year, there are those out there much more deserving, in my opinion. But still, that's just my opinion. What is is what is and it can't be changed.
 
I prefer 1 Timothy 2:1-3

1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,
2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all Godliness and dignity.
3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior.

What good does it serve for me to make myself upset, or frustrate myself about things.

I agree, it's a magazine. It's like fretting over the sexiest person alive on People. If you like Obama or don't I guess you might buy it. I don't know. It's like fretting over Honey Boo Boo. lol

I almost totally missed that whole thing. My husband mentioned it, and I was like "Who?" and he showed me a video, and I then wished I had missed the entire thing. Oy, this country seems to have the attention span of a flea sometimes.
 
I saw one clip, she was eating mayonnaise right out of the jar. It was disgusting.
