On the flip side of that, some passages especially from the prophets, should be taken spiritually - an allegory. If you can't read and recognize the genre of a passage then you walk away with the wrong idea and intent of the passage.

Consider Habakkuk 3:

6 He stood and measured the earth;
He looked and startled the nations.
And the everlasting mountains were scattered,
The perpetual hills bowed.
His ways are everlasting.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;
The curtains of the land of Midian trembled.


This prayer and praise of Habakkuk comes after his 2 complaints to God and God answers to these complaints. The 2 complaints: 1. Israel's wickedness and what Habakkuk feels about it, the lack of Justice on God's part. 2. How dare God use a more wicked nation then Israel to judge Israel.

Habakkuk's prayer and praise is direct response from God's rebuke/answer about Habakkuk's issues. The prayer and praise is about God's own sovereign hand in dealing with the nations (what, when, how) regarding His justice. It's about Israel and the Babylonians and God's dealings with them. The reference to the mountains being scattered and the hills bowing is not to be taken literal. For these things did not literally happen, it is judgment language about God's sovereignty and His just punishment. Habakkuk understands the coming doom at the end of chapter 3, and praises the Lord for it.

There are many who lead a 'moral' life who are not Christian (if Christians could ever agree on what a 'Christian' is).

Included in that "many" are Muslims, Buddhists, Mormons, Catholics and yes, even atheists (shock, horror).
It is a mistake to believe that morality only exists within a particular faith - or lack thereof.

So you believe that one can ignore morals as a part of a spiritual life? Can you provide a real world example (i.e. parable) of how that works?

I agree...the key word was EVERYTHING......the bible contains numerous mediums of truth such as allegory, literal, spiritualized, symbolic and numerous other items of like caliber and order......

What the heck do you mean man? I'm right here yelling from the rooftops and everyone is sippin on lattes and checkin their weather apps on their hand held devices and whatnot.
 
This is the post I am referrring to about Paul who calls one among them wicked, I believe Paul had the Holy Ghost and not Satan when he did so

I would not hesitate to state that this type of person is dangerous and should not be fellowshipped with as they spread lies, dissention and discord among believers

The fruit is not love and forgivenss...the fruit is false accusation and lies with a joyful heart in so doing

This entire thread is actually about judgement and condemnation...both the marks of a false prophet

When God judges, He does so righteously and ALWAYS offers reconciliation

He did not say that wicked person was a someone that was without but of a someone that was within (this person being among themselves). Paul called him that wicked person (presently fornicating) which is according to the unrepentant state of the man doing the same alongside of 1 Cr 5:11 (that which is called a brother) they were told to put away that wicked person from among themselves.

Nowadays they might want to get rid of whoever adresses wickedness but at least there we see Paul call such a man among them "that wicked person" who was a fornicator ( called a brother) who was within, who Paul told in 1 Cr 5:11 not to even eat with such a one, even a railer (which is actually more common among them) and in the same sentence being adressed by Paul as "that wicked person".

The wicked were among his own people back then, but even so it is now as Paul showed

Jerm 5:26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares;they set a trap, they catch men.

Just as there were false prophets (then) even so now (2 Peter 2:1). Just as he that persecuted the one born of the promise (then, as shown in Isaac Gal 4:29) Paul said, even so, now.

Just as in the last days there would be false accusers 2 Ti 3:3 despisers of them that are good.

And all of this in places unable to endure sound doctrine, which happens in and among the religious sphere of things.

Mockers who follow their own lusts and those that heap up teachers after their own lusts. Its pretty clear that self denial will not be popular with such (and among such) in the last of days.

I closed with the self denial deal since the man had his fathers wife and that was not something I would consider self denial as Jesus taught

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Living the spiritual life is not consciously denying ourselves. We just are denying ourselves if we are living the spiritual life.It results in self denial

Self denial is not living the spiritual life.......this is the deception, this is the last days deception. It is so close to the truth,it has "Jesus" involved and nice sweet people. And it plays on our lust of the flesh to be good(human good/evil) on our own.

The man in that post was doing things that were even named among the gentiles having his fathers wife, and instead of being grieved about the mans sin they were proud, that was being pointed out to them
