I feel like it's really dumb to do this. But I'm at a last resort. I know I'm supposed to trust God in his ways and promises, but sometimes it just doesn't look possible. Which I understand it's normal to feel like this sometimes in our walk with God but I want to believe in what He promised.
A couple of years ago, my boyfriend me and broke up. It was a mutual thing, I felt God telling me it was going to happen. And he felt God tell him to as well. But we didn't want to. We cried so hard, neither of us wanted to do it. But we obeyed. And then after we obeyed, God promiseed us that he would bring us back to each other.
That was a really long time ago... about 2-3 years ago.
Over that time, my ex sort of "forgot" the promise... although his walk with God is still as strong as ever (mine is as well). Soon he stopped believing in the promise, even thought the year before, he was so sure of the promise. I was so confused because we were best friends/lovers. We were supposed to work together.
I said I would wait. No matter what. Even if I'm the only one.
Now after all this time has passed, we aren't the same. We don't even talk or glance at each other. But the promise that God made just keeps coming back. God will bring it up when I read my bible or I'm listening to a simple podcast. I'm literally so confused. I know I'm not supposed to look at the circumstance at hand and just believe. But it's hard when the person you love doesn't remember or believe in the promise. Even though we both fully heard the promise and made sure of it. I don't understand Gods plan, but it's been so long... I wonder if anyone else has ever gotten a promise from God, if so, was it worth the wait?
(Yes, before we were together Jesus was a huge part of our relationship and is even after the breakup)

I've noticed when it comes to romantic relationships their is a Lot of "God spoke to me about this person" statements, but rarely does it ever work out.
One possibility is that you fell for the same thing many others fall into. Hearing what you want and saying it's God. This seems most common.
One option is that God never said When He was getting you back together. Just because God says He will do something doesn't mean He will do it when, or How, you want.
Lastly God can have plans but if one does not choose to align Himself with God's plans then God can't force them to obey. My last gf I was convinced God was directing me to her. And I did not cone to that conclusion lightly or quickly. Long story short we not only broke up, but I proceeded to attempt to win her back, as I felt that was what God wanted. It was a huge disaster. I ended up being severely mistreated and had to choose to cut her out if my life. I was very damaged after it all was over. Yet I was convinced God wanted me with her.
Everyone else told me it was a bad idea. God spoke to me, but I listened to another voice.

Lesson learned: Don't count on feelings as if they are promises from God. No idea why either of you split up, but it's over.

Probably a good thing, since you should have been married instead of "lovers."

ive been in a similar situation years back, and in the end i realized i was Loving and holding to the wrong person, through alot of sorrow i learned that there is only One who has my Heart above the rest and that is God. i feel for you because like i said i been there in a very similar place and know how it feels, now days though the other person and i are far apart, i still think of her often, but im never sad about it anymore a broken area of our heart, is good opportunity to let God fill the whole.
