Exactly and besides that the evidence of the spirit has already been shown in scripture to be the fruits of the spirit nowhere does it say the evidence of the spirit is tongues nowhere does it teach this it requires one to interpret it in that way to make it fit as with many false teachings.
The fruit of the spirit are love peace understanding self control ect. not tongues

Galatians 5 verses 22-24 ~ The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

People begin to speak in tongues at the point of the initial infilling of the Holy Ghost as confirmed in scripture. The idea that individuals receive the Holy Ghost the instant they believe, and later are filled with the Holy Ghost is a misconception.
ayes I don’t think there are two stages I believe you receive the spirit or you don’t . “Indwelling “ a term we made up isn’t different from receiving the spirit it’s a one time deal based upon belief

Like this

“While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:44-46‬ ‭KJV‬‬

awe either receive the promise Jesus made about his spirit or we don’t is my opinion . I’ve heard here about how you receive the spirit but later you become “ indwelled “ ect there isn’t doctrine for that in scripture Jesus made a promise tbat those who believes in him would receive the holy ghost it’s a promise his word made and he keeps according to it

ehat happened in acts 10 osnt dofferent from acts 2 each group received the Holy Ghost afyer hearing and believing what was being preached to them about Christ

both groups got baptized the Jewish group in chapter 2 was baptized and received the spirit the group in ten heard the fisoel and believed , received the spirit and then after that Peter commanded that they be baptized after they were already speaking on tongues and already had received the spirit because they believed

I also think it’s worth noting that while tongues is a clear sign in Acts, the Holy Spirit works in so many ways to guide us. For some, it’s that initial outpouring; for others, it’s a quiet strength or wisdom over time. What’s your take on how the Spirit moves in folks who don’t experience tongues but still live deeply faithful lives? I’d love to hear more of your thoughts!
Please accept the following as intended. It is shared out of love, not to offend but rather to point out a simple reality. All human beings have natural characteristics/behaviors that are deemed good. However, none can compare to what the Holy Spirit brings about in those He indwells.

Scripture reveals 100% of those who are initially filled with the Spirit do speak in tongues. And, yes, the Spirit leads believers into all truth. Unfortunately, many forego obeying the foundational precepts God set in place and do not experience being filled with the Holy Spirit, yet believe otherwise. And according to Paul it is only those who have the Spirit dwelling within them that are sons and daughters of God. (Rom. 8:9)

Jesus told believers that IF they continued in His word they were His disciples indeed. And that continuing in His word, meaning being obedient to it, they would know the truth and the truth would set them free. (John 8)

Consider Jesus' words in Matthew 7. The account reveals although sincere many are deceived into believing they are born again children of God:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

The preceding account reveals those who believed in Jesus lacked a proper foundation. The foundation must be laid upon the rock. (Luke 6:48) Hebrews 6 reveals the foundation components that must be in place before going on unto perfection: "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again (indicates it must be laid one time) the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."

Note the components mentioned in the Hebrews scripture are seen in Acts 2:4-42, 8:12-18, 10:43-48, 19:1-7...

So are you saying if one does not speak in tongues they are not filled with the spirit?
Actually scripture reveals it to be so:

Acts 2:2-4
"And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

Acts 2:38-39 (Jewish)
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

Acts 8:12-17 (Samaritans-half Jewish-half Gentile)
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:43-48 (Gentiles)
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Peter's comment about what happened "And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning." Acts 11:15

Acts 19:2-6 (Disciples who did not realize they had to water baptized in Jesus name)
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Scripture says we are sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit when we believe.
We are also indwelt with the Holy Spirit of God by virtue of being born again.

Ephesians 1 verses 13-14
:)
What was the word of truth, the gospel of salvation that included the promise of the Holy Spirit referenced in the Ephesians scripture?

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto
you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:36-39

It does sound that way and we certainly hear it too often, though it goes against what Scripture teaches.
Actually scripture reveals 100% of those initially filled with the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues.

Please take the time to consider a few points from scripture:
Jesus said to ask for the Holy Ghost. How would a person know they needed to ask for the Holy Ghost if there is no evidence when the experience takes place? (Luke 11:13)

How did the Samaritans know they had not received the Holy Ghost yet? And what happened to make them aware the experience had taken place? (Acts 8:12-18)

Paul asked the 12 Ephesus disciples, Have you received the Holy Ghost since your believed? How did Paul expect them to know if they had the Holy Ghost yet. Consider as well, Paul's question was an easy one to answer after the Ephesus disciples actually received the Holy Ghost. Why? Because the experience was confirmed via the sign of speaking in tongues. (Acts 19:1-7)

There are numerous fruits and gits... the gifts are distributed in a way that not everybody gets each and every one.

To say we have to speak in tongues is contrary to what Scripture actually teaches.

From 1 Corinthians 12 verses 4-11 ~ There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. 6There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
There is a distinction between tongues as the initial sign of the infilling of the Holy Ghost, and the gift of tongues accompanied by the gift of interpretation as described in 1 Cor. 12.

100% of individuals in the biblical record spoke in tongues upon being filled with the Holy Ghost. And this continues even unto today. However, individuals that spoke in tongues when filled, and do so in private prayer, may never be used to speak a message in tongues in the church setting.

Believing involves obeying.

Broken record much? You keep repeating the same thing despite the very prevalent FACT that it does not prove your point.

Picking out the worst examples of a movement is evidence usually that a person is totally against that particular belief system.
I'm a Pentecostal. I can't help what other Pentecostals do or act, just like a good Baptist or Methodist christian can't help what others of their denominations do.
We ar not to walk in unbelief of a biblical teaching simply because of multitudes of bad examples.
I believe what I believe based on actual scripture, Whether the multitudes are living it, teaching it or not.
So many today are believing doctrines because of how others believe.
Don't follow denominations' teachings.... follow Jesus Christ.
Jesus did not taught, that the proof for getting the Holy Spirit is the gift of speaking in tongues. The gift of speaking in tounges was in Pauls time one among multi gifts. A gift which not every believer got. 1.Cor.12, 29-30.

Show me where it says the evidence of the spirit is the gift of tongues, not an added interpretation where does it say that? not to mention Jesus breathed the spirit into the apostles did he not? they didi not initially speak in tongues at that moment now did they?

When the 120 in the upper room received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, TWO gifts were manifested: 1. Prophecy, because Acts said they spoke of the wonderful works of God, & 2. tongues, so that the thousands could hear them in their own languages.
Because of this, both prophecy and/or tongues are evidence. Thru Acts different ones spoke in tongues as they were baptized, & Joel & Peter confirms that all listed would prophesy.

It is shocking that the majority of christians don't know/realize that God wanted ALL of His people to prophesy. That is the most important topic of Acts 2. It reads plainly & is plainly overlooked.

No one that I know of has never considered that if all the Jews that day were Hebrew-speaking, tongues would not have been needed, but the 120 would have still prophesied because of their baptism to fulfill the prophecy of Joel.

So perhaps instead of tongues prophecy should be the evidence that one has recieved the spirit, of course that isn't to say it is just saying it would be prefered
