I think most of the Proverbs are very good at least for me reading them.
Hi again Umzza, I'm wondering, is this the kind of thread input that you'd hoped for, because it seemed like you were looking for something more than just having us through a few verses from the Book of Proverbs at you (like I just did :oops:) in your OP?

I've seen Proverbs read throughs and/or studies on other forums that seemed to work out pretty well most times. If you want more, why not start a study and we'll work our way through the book .. unless you'd rather discuss individual verses/passages, of course. I'd like to join in, one way or the other, so please let me know if you ever decide to do so!

Thanks :)

~Deut
p.s. here's another one of my favorites, because it has so much to say in just two short verses.

Proverbs 3
9 Honor the LORD from your wealth
And from the first of all your produce;
10 So your barns will be filled with plenty
And your vats will overflow with new wine.

No it's fine. I've been distracted because of school and my grandfather died and I've had some issues at work. I don't really like discussing the verses a lot honestly. It's pretty straight forward.

Lol no I'm just busy right now. I'm trying to write a paper. Just because I started a thread doesn't mean it revolves around me.:ROFL:
Feel free to post whatever.

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Pro 21:19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Pro 25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

I know this might not be too edifying, but these scriptures make me laugh, which Solomon should know as many women as he had at once taking care of them, for he ought to know their behavior.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Ecc 7:26 And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
Ecc 7:27 Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:
Ecc 7:28 Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.

Solomon had so many women that of course he would be frustrated with them, and many of them might of been at odds with him for having to battle with the other women for attention.

How can you have 1000 women taking care of them, and all things are going to go smooth between you and them, and between each other, for there will sure be a lot of neglecting.

There was so many women that one might say, oh Solomon, I have not seen you in 3 years, how have you been doing you no good dog.

Better get to the corner of the housetop, or the wilderness, Solomon.

But if it is the word of God then Solomon having that many women could not influence him to write what he wrote concerning women, for it would still have to be the truth of God.

But Solomon was not writing from the viewpoint of having one wife, but from the viewpoint of having a 1000 women, so it would be different with all those personalities, and neglect going on, for how is Solomon going to have a relationship with all of them all the time.

So it appears as if it is from Solomon's viewpoint that he was not living for God like he should, so he would of escaped having all those women if he had lived for the LORD in the truth.

2 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

my, don't we all need to take this to heart?

Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city.
(Proverb 16:32)
how often do we argue with people, and drive them away instead of uniting in the truth?
or in a huff, close up our ears and ignore one another, rather than reconcile?

wouldn't it be better to be gentle, and patient, and careful with each other..

The Hebrew "mashal" translated proverb is the same word used for parable. Proverbs as a book are parables that are used to reveal the spiritual understanding (the faith principle) . Proverbs focuses on moral application. Other parables are used to verify the unseen meaning as well as a historallly true document.

Is there a proverb about reading?
Im thinking I would like to put one up in the library. Or one about keeping silent?

Somewhere i was asking abt Prov. 14.23.. and here are some answers for me:

Slinging French fries for minimum wage is better than hearing another business plan for making a million. If you resent the statement, this proverb is for you! Dreamers and promoters fantasize about being successful; diligent and godly men go to their same old jobs with thankful hearts and find success through hard work. They do not sit around talking with speculators and making spreadsheets of imagined wealth from a new fantasy business. See other proverbs (Pr 1:32; 12:11; 13:4; 13:11; 13:23; 14:4; 14:15; 27:23).

Some men always talk of new businesses, new investments. They are full of ideas how to make money, but their own success is always just around the corner. Solomon warned his son against the distractions and delusions of moneymaking schemes. He knew about the exciting “business opportunities” and “investment secrets” of slothful fools and lying promoters. “Son, overtime at the fryer would be better than listening to these losers.”

In all labor there is profit. Take an average young man, who diligently and faithfully works hard at a minimum wage, fast food job. In one year, he will be shift supervisor. In another year, shift manager. In two more, store manager. After managing faithfully for a year, he will get a piece of the action. In five more years, he will own half the business. In five more, he will buy out the owner. Simple, certain, and successful! No better ideas here – just faithful hard work! Not bad for slinging fries at minimum wage, eh?

In all labor there is profit. Take another young man, who diligently and faithfully works hard at ordinary factory or office jobs. Such efforts will make his raises and promotions above average. Saving and investing part of his weekly pay, he will accumulate much in 40-50 working years. He will retire on schedule with significant company benefits, considerable Social Security, and a sizeable estate. Simple, certain, and successful! No better ideas here – just faithful hard work! Not bad for an office or factory stiff, eh?

In all labor there is profit. A third young man by wise counsel settles on a profession requiring a master’s degree. The proverb works as well with a vocational education or a doctoral degree. He completes his studies as quickly as he can with excellent grades and the least amount of debt. He enters a professional field with a transferable skill, works hard in it, and should earn more than the previous two examples over their working lives, other things being equal. Simple, certain, and successful! No better ideas here – just faithful hard work at academic studies first and a career later! Not bad for a student, eh?

Vegemite - The Real Story:

But Australians love the stuff, and the rest of the world thinks it's the weirdest thing since chocolate covered ants.

All cultures have their own weird things... that's fine.
And hey, at least Australians aren't eating haggis.

.
Vegemite, haggis, chocolate-coated ants... Hey, at least those who eat these aren't eating that hillbilly "delicacy" - rocky mountain oysters!

((was raised in hillbilly land))

We don't actually eat that. We just tell yankees that, while we quietly strum our banjos.

It gives some hints about women in 1 Timothy 2:15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

So faith, love, holiness with propriety, and childbearing. I wonder what job would involve all those characteristics...? :)
