I was reading this Chapter and thought "Is this the earliest Psalm to tell of the coming of Jesus? I looked through the different Commentaries and they all differ to one degree or another. One says it is about David being King, another says it is about all Kings of Isreal God anointed, and others differ in different ways.

To me, the key verse is verse 7: I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. To me, this reads that it is Jesus because He is the "only begotten Son of God", right?

1Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Indeed, a Messianic psalm that refers (I believe) to the Millennial reign of Christ.

It is speaking of Jesus that shall rule the world.

Psa 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Jesus is the Savior and King of the earth.

The kings of the earth which would be the world would not be against David nor care for his ways for he is no threat to them.

Is the world worried about king David right now.

The anointed is Jesus.

Jesus is the threat to the world in which the heathen want to do away with Him and His beliefs that impact the world with those ways which does not agree with their ways according to the flesh.

Which they will do in the future.

They are not worried about David worldwide saying we must stifle his popularity and influence that hinders us.

Millions of people are not clinging to David hindering them and causing them to rage.

Jesus is the threat and hindering their influence in the world.

Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psa 2:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

Isa 13:11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

Zec 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Isa 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
Isa 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
Isa 11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

God will laugh and have them in derision because they will not prosper.

God speaks unto them in his wrath, and vexes them in his sore displeasure.

Which this chapter is about the future when God punishes the heathen.

And Jesus the King rules out of Jerusalem.

Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God which means He is the only human to be conceived by the Holy Ghost.

All others were fathered.

Also Son is with a capital S which David would not have the title with a capital.

No male has a capital for son but the man Christ Jesus showing His importance.

Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Zec 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Rev 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Rev 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

David is not going to inherit the heathen as a possession but Jesus will.

And Jesus is the one who will rule with a rod of iron and submit the heathen.

David, Noah, Moses, and company, might have been important in their time but Jesus is the only focus in the New Testament.

David has no significance now and this chapter is not about him when he was ruling.

This chapter speaks on a worldwide level when the heathen rage trying to stop the preaching of Jesus and the truth in favor of the antichrist agenda.

Which they will be punished and not prosper.

Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Mat 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Mat 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

God is speaking to the whole earth to serve Him with fear and kiss the Son which accept Him or there will be punishment.

This cannot apply to David being on a worldwide scale.

And there is no requirement to acknowledge David or there will be punishment.

And David is no threat to the world to want to stop his influence causing them to rage.

Jesus is the threat with the influence and popularity and the following and the worship and the praise and people saying He is Lord and Savior causing the heathen to rage for they are against it trying to establish their own agenda with power and control.

Which is in the future.

Which this chapter is about the future which only Jesus is the influence and king.

Now I see what happened, after my long walk off a short pier daily. What happened? Son came to earth through woman, Mary from the tribe of Judah.
Son, the only person of flesh to ever do perfect between his Father God and himself, turned out to be for us all to believe it or not.
A choice to choose after the death and burial, is the risen Son is for us all or not? Not a have to, seriously a willingness to believe and see new.
That be what I see David was speaking of was about Son Jesus. Which he did not understand fully, just knew to write as led by God Father, the Holy Spirit, leading him. Not living in him as of yet, not then as does now today live in us 1 John 2:27, thanks to the done work of Son first. Wow Isaiah 6:1-7
the first testament is all about Son coming as the messiah to save us the people, all those that are sincere in beleif to Father through Son, see this truth now and become content in all things that happen good or bad to them and those around them.
We, (God's kids) stand in trust to Father no matter what, the same as Jesus did all the way to that cross for us all to be able to be saved by Father for us, "The Gift". Therefore believe, receive and see new in Father's truth for you too! Having now love and mercy for all, as Son has done this first John 13:34

It was still a mystery in the first (Old) Testament, what God was doing from day one of the fall of Adam and Eve, eating. from that tree. as God said in Genesis 3:15-16 the first prediction of Son, that was not understood until after the resurrection of Son.

Not understood by even the disciples until after they saw Jesus risen. Yet still had troubles understanding it all. Then came the call from Father to Paul, who was Saul that God called to reveal the mystery, God loves us all, otherwise Son would not have ever gone freely to that cross at all. First took away all sin for us all, by his willing one time death was for us all (Hebrews 10:10) (1 John 2:1-27)
Yet God knew and knows, loves us all proven to me in risen Son for us all to choose to believe God or not sincerely. and see to love all also.

That in chapter 2 and many more is the prophecies of our Messiah the risen Jesus, who cam here to earth in the only perfect flesh and blood to save us through belief and be new in trust to Father, daddy, PaPa for us through son's done work to us all.
