In your Infinite Mercy, O LORD, you purify me with fire.
You take the old me and cast it to the flames to consume and disappear.
I have been the sterile fig tree for so long, pursuing nonsense, basking in stupidity and sin. Now you care, you took me and set me ablaze.
How it hurts, my mind is crying out loud, my identity cries: "I am dying! I am dying!" I don't know anymore who I am. I don't know who to cling to. And yet you send people my way to help me heal.
O my LORD, you are destroying me. You are destroying me...
I am a new creation in You, still unborn, still aflame, still needing time. Still needing faith.
But there is no going back once you take your sons and daughters into your hands.
I am purified by fire before my meat can stand the sacred touch of the Holy Spirit.
I am afraid, but also privileged. You could have just let me go, let me live my sterile life, let me be a nothing. And I would have never known.
Now my future is in You, even if I don't know You yet, even if I am no more than burnt ashes under Your Feet. I am undeserving of even that.
Who will I be from now on? O glorious mystery! Only You know.
You decide and in You I choose to abide.
Thank You God I scream even in the midst of my fire, even in my fear, even in my despair. Thank You, for something sacred is happening in me, and You are going to be at my side.
You cast Your Eyes on me and now by your glance I shall be purified.
