Question about John 3:36 in the KJV

John 3:36 King James Version
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

The wording for the KJV is sort of unique hence why I'm asking only about it. Is this saying that whoever does not believe the Son (Jesus), as in what he says, shall not see life?

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24

Jesus went on to say, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death."

And it is written, Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me...For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

It actually says believing into, not believing on. That indicates an active, living faith that puts off the old man and puts on Christ. Disbelieving the son also includes believing on him in the mind without believing into him with the heart by doing what he says.

The one believing into the son has eternal life, but the one disbelieving the son shall not see the life, but the anger of God remains upon him. John 3:36​

It is meaning that whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son does NOT have eternal life,
because God's wrath condemns him for not believing Jesus is God's Son/Messiah/the Light of the world (cf. John 3:16&18).

Yes. Scripture such as Hebrews 5:9 and John 8:31-32, along with many others, indicate what believing in Jesus entails:

"And being made perfect, he (Jesus) became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;" Heb. 5:9

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32

I'm not an expert in the Greek language, but I believe "believing on" would just be the translators English take on "believing into". Believing in sort of implies a more shallow belief that is simply mental ascent, "I believe in Jesus" would in most cases mean that you believe Jesus exists as a person, akin to saying you believe in Santa Claus. Believing on is a more thorough belief, you believe what the person said as well. This seems to capture what is meant by "believing into" Jesus - a more thorough belief.

I really prefer the KJV for this reason, it uses the words "believe on" with regards to Jesus. We are to believe on Jesus, not simply believe in him: John 3:18 - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”
The one believing in the Son has eternal life, but the one not obeying the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

The second version is the literal Greek translation. Taking one verse and making a doctrine out of it leads to error. Jesus also said this:

"Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent...." John 6:28 & 29.

"Although God overlooked the ignorance of earlier times, He now commands all people everywhere to repent." Acts 17:30

"He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.…"

Those who reject Lord Jesus, or fail to receive Him, will not see life. They will perish unless they repent and receive Christ.

To hear, believe it to be true and act on it.
Starting with your own life and lifestyles. This is the act of repentance, surrender, and obedience all in one.
 
So without God's Faith inbirthed in you ---you can't even please God -----

Your Hardened heart has to be changed by God the Father to even accept the Gospel ----
