A friend of mine is planning on settling down ( get married) soonest. Even though this is not something he would have love to do now because there are a lot of things he would have loved to achieve before doing so but the sexual pressure he is getting nowadays is becoming too hard to bear. He is scared because according to him he is starting to lose control of his desires and he finds his desire controlling him sometimes. He does want to make a practice of sexual sin so he wants to get married.

Do you think this is such a good idea or is there any other way of overcoming his desires. He has prayed and fasted but it seems nothing is working. Am afraid he would make a mistake in his choice of a wife because he is somehow doing it out of pressure. What do you think? should he go ahead?

Hoping to hear your view?

Sounds to me like your friend will be working toward those achievements with a wife. :) Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom. But I will put in a prayer for the brother.

I Cor. 7:36 and the rest of that chapter covers the case fairly nicely. When it's God's time to come together, that needs to be considered as a call from God, and needs to be acted on. I am assuming your friend is about your age also. For many people, age 23 is past the age of God's call for marriage. If he has a Godly woman ready to marry him, this needs to be considered in the light of a call to this ministry. Surely the two of them can discuss whether their relationship is from God or not. If they need an outside counsellor or pastor to help with this, one should not be too hard to find.

If he loves her and planned on marrying her, then yes, he should marry her. If, however, he's not sure, maybe he should consider stepping back and taking a break for the time being.

Also, in the same chapter Ken mentioned, there is a verse that specifically refers to this type of situation. Paul states, "But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn." 1 Cor 7:9

Thanks to all. I have seen wisdom in your quote and i will surely give him full support now.

Getting married is no silver bullet for any issue. Period. If he's got a problem with something that he thinks getting married with fix, then the Mrs better anticipate this problem becoming a theme for the marriage.

hmmm. that's true

"Hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."

I was just about to suggest 1 Corinthian 7 as well. I see that some others beat me to it. :) I am in agreement with them on this.

Not enough detail about his current relationship (or lack of one) to really answer this.

I recommend:
1. pastoral counseling
2. many cold showers
