Sounds familiar. I had decided to marry a black man and, because my parents forbade it (though I was 20) and took the situation straight to my church, I went through church discipline for not obeying my parents. It is important that you walk closely with the Lord, especially at times like this. Love your family, but recognize that you are an adult (if you are over 18) and have every right to make decisions of such nature for yourself. HOWEVER, you must carry out your independent decisions with a respectful heart toward your family, knowing full well that, as long as you are in their house you follow their rules. Until you are LIVING as an independent woman from your parents they will have the right to delineate certain instruction for you to follow.I have been in a relationship with a black man for almost a year. I told my parents & grandmother after 6 months. They were mean &hateful. My grandma said "God made everyone a different color so they'd stay together." I don't think that's true. I have so much faith in my relationship. It's just so hard not having my families support. Im 19 & still live at home. All I have is faith &the love of my boyfriend to keep me going. When will I be able to be fully happy.
Incidentally, I moved out of my parent's home and was an independent... but my engagement was broken off on mutual agreement that neither of us was ready to marry the other. A few months later I met my current husband, and though our marriage has been full of controversy is now quite blessed with the Lord's hand. I still keep my parents at a distance, not because they are still racially hateful but because they are narcissistic.
