Wins CPAC Straw Poll.............what's new?

Scott Walker 2nd

Ted Cruz 3rd

Surprise, surprise! A libertarian won CPAC!

But, seriously, I'm glad to see Scott Walker in 2nd.
 
Based on the CPAC results only, as I view the top 5 finishers. FOR ME, Scott Walker and Ben Carson are a coin flip for my vote. While I like Ted Cruz, think he isn't ready for the Presidency just yet.......VP? Maybe.......

Of these five, I don't think Rand Paul could defeat Hillary..........unless Hillary completely implodes, which is quite possible.

Jeb Bush could defeat Hillary...........but there is a lot of "family baggage" there.........and he will never be the "darling" of the far right............

This is only based on the CPAC results.......I know other candidates are still out there........Rubio for one........
 
This is a pretty good gauge of what young GOPers want. The CPAC straw poll winner rarely ever gets the nomination be mindful. However, to contend with a politician so masterful as Hillary, the GOP cannot afford to shamefully ostracize Rand like they did to his dad. The youth vote is a small demographic, but because they aren't as beholden to any party, they are one of the key components of the swing voters. Don't have to nominate Rand, just got to treat him fairly.
 
If Ted Cruz isn't ready for the presidency, neither is Ben Carson. I like what I hear from Dr. Carson, but he is COMPLETELY untested and has no executive experience.

Right now, I'm looking strongly at Walker, but I still like Perry. I have no use for Jeb Bush. And Rand Paul is a no-go for me either.

So you'd trust the man to cut into your brain, but not run the country? Believe me, if he'd capable of doing that kind of surgery and simultaneously running his department at the foremost neurosurgical hospital (among other treatment regimens it also the "foremost" in) in the western hemisphere and very likely the world, running a mere country will be easy!

I know that's a gross oversimplification, so don't get your knickers in a twist. But the very fact Carson isn't a political, but is a trusted administrator, educator, scientist and doctor -- in my opinion -- overcomes a lot of so-called shortcomings.

The initial intent of the founders was not to create a governing class, but to let the cream of all classes rise to the top, taking their seat in Washington, and serving the country, not ruling it. I think it's time we got back to that. Throw all the career politicians out! Bring back the farmers, teachers, pastors, doctors, businessmen and throw the cotton pickin' lawyers out on their posteriors!

Running a medical department (no matter how "foremost") is not like running, say, a multi-million dollar business. I agree with your sentiments of getting the "politicians" out and putting in everyday people, but I'd prefer to have someone with some major executive experience. Let's get Dr. Carson to head up HHS first, then go from there.

I don't think you know anything about what medical departments -- particularly surgical units -- do. it is more intense and management-intensive than deciding whether to build a new product and how much return the investors will get if they do so. Dr. Carson held human life in his hands every time he developed a new procedure. You don't go into that lightly. You plan, you admit what you don't know, you surround yourself with people who do know those things, and together you formulate a plan that has an optimal outcome, and then set about carrying out that plan with such precision that the desired outcome is reached, if not exceeded.

That means he not only had to plan for the procedures he did, but he had to oversee all the other surgeons, neurologists, nurses, anesthetist, pharmacologists, etc for the procedures they, because it came down to being his responsibility if anyone failed. He had to plan the department's budget, not reaching for pie-in-the-sky, latest new shiny thing but to be reasonable in his expenditures, justify his costs, and be accountable to those who were above him.

If he can keep a bunch of prima donna doctors and specialists happy, even ecstatic, to be working under him, for as many years as he ran Princeton Medical Center's Neurosurgery Department, he can run my country any time he wants. We need new, fresh, "outside-the-box" thinking. Everyone is Washington today is a clone of everyone else, with only slight variations across ideological lines. We need new minds, new thinking. Carson is an excellent start.

And Rand Paul is just another clone.
