Re: Prayer Request for the Christians in Egypt
Dear neighbours,
As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe that we are called to represent Him by embodying his principles. He spoke the truth in love, prayed for His enemies, and forgave those who persecuted him. However, the persecution of Christians in Egypt has steadily gotten worse. Early this year, Egypt underwent a revolution, which resulted in the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak after nearly 30 years in power. Christians are now being intimidated, jailed, kidnapped and killed and this kind of thing is happening fairly frequently.
We need to pray for the Christians in Egypt during these difficult days, and for the repentance of their enemies. They are enduring so much; everything is just black for these people and they can’t carry the whole world. I know of one Egyptian who cried for three hours the other day because of the continual stream of threats and tension. Their only dream is to survive and stay alive. People just breathe; they don’t think how they breathe, but in Egypt, they think how they breathe, every breath is a thought. With that much misery, they don’t even want to think about the bitter truth of tomorrow.
They want to have amnesia, forget their names- they are acting and putting a smile on their faces, not being allowed to be themselves anywhere... How long must they pretend? Before the 25th of January they were like any other people, had dreams like any other, dreams of falling in Love, having kids, getting a job, now they don’t dream so much... it’s like something died. My words in this letter are easy but the real thing is unbearable! We don’t know how if feels to go outside scared someone might touch us or kidnap us as a rule. The least we can do is pray sincerely for a strengthening of their faith, safety and hope, and for peaceful relations between Egypt and the State of Israel.
