When reading the Bible, we read in context to see the whole picture of what is going on in that moment. Originally the Bible did not have chapters or verses but one continuous letter or book. We read whole context to get what the verses mean that we are trying to figure out. For example in some passages lamps could mean churches but than in another passage lamp could be us shining and burning. Two different places use the word “lamp” but they both in context mean two different things. When reading the Bible we learn to rightly divide it. As Jesus Disciples we abide in it and find all answers in scripture.

CONTEXTUAL BIBLE

Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

IN CONTEXT
Main Subject: You
Sub-subject: You being light, candle, and us shining
What to do: shine through our good works
What not to do: hide under a basket and not shine
