If the past is holding you back.. let's take some time today to go over a few things to help you better understand areas of the past and move forward.
First of all, you're not alone. Everyone has parts of the past they do not like. Remind yourself that a lot of past problems are for the most part common. *With exceptions of course.
Most relationships will end in heartbreak or hard. Certainly that's not always the case as they can end on good terms.
Understand what you did wrong. Then understand you weren't 100% the problem. Understand where they went wrong. Adjust your wrongs. Then edit what you're looking for and move forward.
Remember, the people of your PAST grant you no Progress Report.
Early in my Christian dating life (2005ish) I had accrued a ton of knowledge, self-growth and put it all together.. then a christian woman came into my life. My relationship with her showed me I was more successful than ever before, truly a better man. Unfortunately, came the time where I hit the wall and all went South. Immediately, I learned my mistakes.. I tried to go out with her again PROVING I had learned, grown and was better for her. She was done with me. I did nothing to hurt her to end things. The connection had simply broken. She ignored me, avoided me, etc. I took this hard. She helped me learn and gain experience.
See.. in the tail end of the relationship I was a more fully grown person in the midst of my failure with her... then I was when I was succeeding with her. Let that digest. A weaker self was succeeding.. but a stronger self was stuck in the ruins of a failed relationship.
Therefore, a person from your past cannot bare you a progress report.. be used to show and help you realize your growth and success. It's like looking back at high school people. You see them now and they don't see your growth.. they just see who you were back then.
The same applies here.
So what I realized early on was each time the time came for the next woman.. I saw how I had grow.. through the relationship realized where I was weak.. and then grew stronger after the relationship ended.
Begin to understand failure as the point where you can recycle it and re-use it for strength and growth. It's like a progress report showing you what you're doing wrong. Read it. Just don't depend on people from your past to help you realize it.. they won't. Instead move on and pursue relationships and friendships with others.
