Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
...and in this case 'obey' means to follow the instructions of the Gospel..

Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
...and those were the instructions to obey.

It couldn't mean some type of keeping Commandments such as Christ gave to the rich young ruler, because...
Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Around and around we go as the book of Galatians is about the written ordinances, not the spiritual aspect of the moral teachings behind the law.

Also reason why we keep going around is because of this one word "BELIEVE"..........

Lord Jesus says those who believe in Him are those that "DO" what He says !!!

Until this gets understood the round robin game will continue, because denying part of what Jesus said is denying Jesus !!!

Technically it is faith, only in themselves. :) However, the saving kind of faith is in the Lord, and not in self-righteousness.

From here though we must discern between doing self-righteousness and doing His righteousness, as there is a BIG difference.

To many on here seem to want to call others on here speaking of doing His righteousness in our lives as being self-righteous. That would be contributing His working power to the devil by saying that, be very careful people !!!

Jesus also said that His sheep hear Him. The sheep do what He says because they hear Him. They do not hear those who seek to lift themselves up above their fellow man.

The Gospel command Repent, which means to turn to God, find its expression in confessing Jesus as Lord.

When we Repent, we turn from Satan as our lord and master to Jesus as our Lord and Master.

We are to remain turned to Him in faithful committed trust and obedience for life.

That is what Believe means.

Unbelief is Disobefience. Same exact Greek word.

Which is nothing I am doing but instead trying to get all believers to follow what is clearly written in His word instead of a defiled private interpretation fed to them by their denominations/churches.

Calling others out when they are in the wrong and speaking on doing His righteousness in our lives is not lifting one up above fellow believers. We are called as overseers of the rest of the flock and are placed by God to teach others the truth in His word.

How can a person say they hear the Lord if in the same breath they state things like we don't have to, or that is not for us, or that was before the cross therefore does not apply ???

Scripture from Apostle Paul clearly says and shows the Holy Spirit can not teach other than what the Lord taught, and also says the Holy Spirit will keep reminding us of His teachings so we don't forget to stay with observing them.

Sooo..... it has to mean follow the instructions of the gospel because it can't possibly mean exactly what it says? Why then didn't it say given to them that obey the Gospel instead?

Acts 5:31-32 (NASB)
[SUP]31 [/SUP]"He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. [SUP]32 [/SUP]"And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him."

Acts 5:31-32 (TEV)
[SUP]31 [/SUP]God raised him to his right side as Leader and Savior, to give the people of Israel the opportunity to repent and have their sins forgiven. [SUP]32 [/SUP]We are witnesses to these things—we and the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to those who obey him."

Acts 5:31-32 (NLT)
[SUP]31 [/SUP]Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven. [SUP]32 [/SUP]We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.”

Gee whiz..... you'd think that Jesus, given a Name above every name and being King of Kings and Lord of Lords and the Head of the Church that He might just tell us something about how to serve Him, where to go, what to do, who to minister to, etc,etc..... especially what to SAY since in Acts it also says that His people will speak for Him (prophesy).

Acts 2:14-18 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP]But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. [SUP]15 [/SUP]"For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; [SUP]16 [/SUP]but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: [SUP]17 [/SUP]'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR forth of MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS; [SUP]18 [/SUP]EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT AND THEY SHALL PROPHESY'.

Written ordinances vs spiritual aspect etc?
Has it ever occurred to you that the commandments were first spoken before written?

Exo 20:6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
...sounds spiritual to me.

Your distinction strikes me as artificial.

Believing in the Gospel is followed by receiving the Holy Spirit Who is active in us conforming us to His image. This includes convicting us, illuminating our understanding, strengthening our faith, bearing fruit etc.

Until you give credit to Whom it is due, all your 'doing' will only be doo. :)

Agreed, but I don't see how that all follows with what I posted. Different scope.
The turning/the faith is a work of God.

This post makes no sense.
Are you saying we must keep His Commandments in order to receive salvation or the Holy Spirit?
What must be 'obeyed' in order to receive the GIFT of eternal life except to receive it as a gift??

Rom 10:3-4 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. (4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

How many commandments did David break? I have heard from a sound source it is 6. Surely, if it were possible for eternal salvation to be undone it would have happened to David!

Even the 'sin leading to death' i have heard he committed.

But God is merciful!

God is faithful!

How can it be that David was 'a man after God's own heart'?

David was honest with God of these sins. David worshipped God as strongly as he could.

This is real relationship with his Redeemer. THE Redeemer.

How deep does His commitment to us go?

It is an unfathomable well of grace!

Matthew: 13. 52. Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

Philippians: 3. 6. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Philippians: 3. 18. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19. Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20. For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

Philippians: 4. 7. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

John: 6. 36. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

God bless us all always

 thank you very much :welcome:

He that believeth on the son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not that God hath made him a liar because he believeth not the "RECORD " that God gave his son.

And this is the " RECORD": that God hath given to us eternal life and this is in his Son.

1st John 5 verses 10 and 11

If you don't believe the record, that in Christ is ETERNAL life, you call God a liar.

John 10:28 "I give them (his sheep" )
eternal life and they shall NEVER perish"

Believe on the Saviour ( that he gives eternal life) and love the brethren.

And this is his commandment: That we should believe on the name of his son Jesus Christ and love one another as he gave commandment. 1 John 3:23

Oh how sweet it is to have God's spirit to believe that through and in Jesus Christ we have eternal life and love the brethren

May god bless you as only he can do............................................

So when you read Ezekiel 18:24, you think God is lying to us? Just wondering.

So long as you don't attribute doing "His righteousness" as the means as to why you are saved. It is simply saved by grace through faith. We go back to what we have covered through many threads, sanctification throughout your life isn't why you are saved. It happens, yes but it doesn't save you; that is strictly accomplished through Christ and what He did on our behalf.

It is easy, If I am doing it BECAUSE he saved me, and empowered me to do those works. and I want to serve him, Then it is his power and his righteousness (his work)

If, on the other hand, I am doing it to be saved, Maintain salvation, or not lose it. Then I am doing self righteousness. Even as a believe I can do self righteousness. As I do it for self, not others..

I call it watering down the law. Getting rid of aspects of the law I do not think apply to me, And others which I can not fulfill, so I must set them aside so that I do not look as sinful.

Then boast of how Good I keep the law. So I must be saved, because I am not like the sinner..

When in reality, In Gods eyes, your just as evil as the sinner, You just watered down his law so you can not see how evil you are.

Sadly, the words, "He HAS PERFECTED FOREVER, those whom he is sanctifying" Just have no meaning to them..

I am Perfect. Yet I am in the process of being sanctified (set apart because I am not perfect)

Foolishness to those who are not his..

Works of Hope. faith and assurance, to those who are his.

[h=1]Ezekiel
18:24[/h]
24.) But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Ezekiel
18:24

24.) But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Yep. Better be with Christ, One sin is all it takes to take what we consider a lifetime of good and throw it down the tubes..

So again, WHat hope can one ever have apart from Christ. If OSAS is not true, no man or woman has any hope period.

For that reason alone I'm glad I'm covered by the righteousness of Christ, not my own :)

True faith results in obedience according to James. Faith without works is dead, and dead faith can't save you.
