Oh how big is your apartment?
Ikea has now a store in my country, so they have showcase you can walk through and see what it's like to have their fittings/colour combos in your place maybe. I don't know about website, as pics can be misleading.
I say Ikea because they have furnishings that fit into apartments (smaller spaces) that you don't need to bust down a wall for. Whatever you do, make it yours and make it so you can live with and is comfortable to you.
And so you can clean it easily.
Wish I had your problem, but I might do for my mum's house now the tenants have moved out. It's a house tho, not an apartment and is pretty old, so needs an update and fresh look.
Flooring - so much choice now, depends on budget, but I think rugs work better than floor to floor carpeting (and easier to install)
Outlets - make them accessible now that we have so many electronics, need to have them so you don't have long extension cords everywhere for all the things you need to plug in. It used to be they were only a little ways off the floor but now, they are at a better height so you don't have to bend down so much.
I had my own school library space for the time I worked in the library, and I changed the furniture around so much since there was no budget for renovations, to make the space work better. When the time came when the teachers/principals considered renovations, they put in a glass divider instead of a baffle/curtain that would muffle the noise, and they put a kitchen sink right next to one of the exits?!
And I was forever opening and closing the entrance door, when I could have done with a lobby entrance and space for children to hang their bags and take off their shoes. So if I had to do it myself I def would have considered what it's like to work in the space and what the children need. Not what a store or other people had done with theirs. Interior stores salespeople in general will just try to sell you the most expensive thing or want to get rid of their stock, and other people are not you.
