Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Mat 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Repentance is to feel sorry for doing sin and turn away from sin and not holding on to sin.

A person can admit they are a sinner in need of a savior but not repent.

Which many people do that.

Which is not repentance unless they give up the ways of the flesh.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Which it is required of us to turn away from sin if we confess Christ.

Repentance turn away from sin.

Not admit you are a sinner and that is suffice but do something about it by wanting to stop going by the ways of the flesh.

Which in the flesh dwells no good thing and those in the flesh cannot please.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

If a person hates sin, and does not want sin, and allows the Spirit to lead them then they will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

And God will give them an escape from the temptation so they can bear it.

A saint led by the Spirit will have an advantage over people of the world.

But the world wants sin as well as many people who confess Christ.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Some people will not let go of the flesh and did not truly repent.

The blood of Christ does not wash away their sins because they are holding on to sin.

There are those who hold on to sin and think they are saved although most likely they toned it down.

Which delights them for they say hey I'm trying to do better but you know we cannot abstain from sin.

And there are those that allow the Spirit to lead them but they might sin once in a great while but they repent and move forward.

Those that say they cannot abstain from sin holding on to sin are at a behavior where sin is their priority.

Which is why the Bible says lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.

Those led of the Spirit acknowledging the truth might sin but God's ways are their top priority.

Like king David who did some terrible sins but his top priority was God's ways which he was a man after God's own heart and he repented.

A person that is very determined in physical fitness, exercising effectively, proper sleep, and eating the best foods for that goal to a great degree might engage in a bowl of ice cream, or some cake, or stay up too late, or skip a day of exercising, once in a great while, but their top priority is their fitness goals.

Those led of the Spirit might indulge in junk food once in a great while but God's ways are their top priority.

So they correct it their slate being clean and move forward fresh.

A hypocrite's top priority is sin, repentance being not effective in their life.

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

A true saint's top priority is God's ways meaning repentance is effective.

They care too much about God's ways to let that junk food be counter to their goal which they will work that junk food off and shed those spiritual pounds.

We should not sin but if we do we have the cure being led of the Spirit.

But it should be common sense to know these things if a person claims Jesus as Savior.

But it says they are ever learning but not able to come to the truth.

Which shows how much the flesh wants to have its way for they have a form of godliness claiming Christ but the flesh is still kicking their butt.
