Prayer.....lots and lots of prayer. And, if that doesn't work, I pray. :)

What helps you to resist temptation?
Every time I am tempted, if I stop right then and there and ask Jesus to take it, He does!

Problem of course is I don't do that even close to how often I should. Sometimes I remember and actually actively take my mind away from asking Him. Not good.

But He is faithful to forgive.

So the world, your flesh, and the devil will constantly come back and tempt you again. It is a moment by moment walk in Him.

2 Peter 1:5-8 KJV And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love.

I'll just be real about it, sometimes I simply give in.

Remove yourself from the people, places, or activities that cause temptation.

What helps you to resist temptation?
Gods word .

remember when Jesus was tempted ?

Each time he was tempted he parried it with Gods word

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

….But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

….Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

….Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:1, 4, 7, 10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we can learn things like prayer in his word

“And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

ultimately we have to change our minds from “ sin will never destroy me “ to “ unless I repent I’ll surely perish “

as we hear the truth being believers it’s impossible not to change unless we reject it

The power of God at work in an individual for all things is the manifestation of the life of Christ lived through us by walking in the Spirit. Learn to walk in the Spirit.

The power of God at work in an individual for all things is the manifestation of the life of Christ lived through us by walking in the Spirit. Learn to walk in the Spirit.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.( only if we’re led by the gospel )

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.( can’t keep living like that )

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: ( need to walk in this instead ) against such there is no law.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:16-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we follow Christ he’s not going to lead us into sin but to repentance

After a comment like "eat a banana" I feel stupid to write "eat the Holy Communion"... but I am doing it anyway, assuming that your question and your struggle are serious (just as the struggle of any Christian who wants to take himself seriously and is honest with himself).

If salvation depended solely on our willpower and our ability to abstain from sinning than the Law of Moses would have been enough and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ would be ... just a narrative that must fit a larger picture. Of course, this is not the case.

In reality, the Holy body and the precious blood of Jesus Christ are the center of the Christian life: the Holy Eucharist is the concrete means by which you unite with Christ and are given power (from outside of this world) to deny this world with its temptations.

What do I do in order to renounce this world and have power to continue in the journey towards the kingdom of God? I go to the church (the eastern orthodox church), I pray, I read the Bible, I try to fast and I eat the Holy Communion. The same things that christians have been doing for centuries.

No breaking news, no shortcut, no other way.

I'm glad you did it anyway, I didn't want to make you feel stupid, thank you for sharing these precious words!

It reminds me that Jesus resisted temptation, in the wilderness and in the garden. And we are declared righteous in him, covered by him. We have the resistance of temptation which Jesus accomplished, it is done. Jesus just wants us to give him everything we have to offer, even if all we have is filth, and let him command whatever we are and whatever we have, and his desire is for the very, very best for us.

You don't cast down imagination and every high thing that
exalts itself against the knowledge of God? - 2 Corinthians 10:5

God never said in His Word to pray and ask the Lord to get the devil off of us.

Paul tried that and it didn't work for him either.

He had to learn to do what the Lord tells us thru James:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you - James 4:7

What helps you to resist temptation?
Resist the devil can only happen when you submit to God then you can resist him and he will run from you

James 4:7-10

Jesus resisted temptation with the word of God Luke chapter 4:1-13

Submit to God in Prayer and fight the devil with the word of God and the devil will flee from you.

Ephesians 6 says to put on the whole Armor of GOD, and then you will be able to resist.

Hmm.... Ya sure?

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into TEMPTATION but deliver us from evil.

Hebrews 2:18

New King James Version

18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
