In the ancient world covenants tended to have these six parts: preamble, prologue, stipulations, document clause, witnesses, and ratification. Let me describe these and then talk about how they fit with regard to the material we are looking at today because really everything in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy somehow fits within this. Virtually everything in those four books. The book of Genesis is a little more special but virtually everything in the final four books of the first five, the Pentateuch, the books of Moses, is in the category.
The ratification part includes sanctions. The sanctions are that. a. The sanctions are promises of benefits that will come if you keep the covenant. “If you keep my covenant, here are the things you’ll get.” It is sort of like what we might the carrot in the pair, the carrot and the stick, when you think about motivating an animal.
b. The sanctions also contained curses. “Here are the bad things that will happen to you if you don’t keep my covenant.” That’s the stick.

you need to back up to Genesis 1.28-30...that was not a command, but a blessings and promise and directive....
Well let's look at the actual words recorded in Eden from Genesis 2:15-17 (hence Edenic command):

15
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

So let's stop making up stuff as we go along. God already foreknew that Adam would forfeit everything through disobedience.

So where are the necessary parts that make a covenant?

Had you read my post completely, I was responding to Meggido who was asserting that there is an Edenic Covenant. I simply refuted him, and all those who make such claims. This claim actually is a part of Covenant Theology, but there was no covenant with Adam. The first covenant was with Noah.

Nothing whatsoever. It is a fictitious covenant.

Whether it is or isn't I can't say for sure, but it's not of the new I know that much.

The NT is inheritance of all that Jesus is and was and He gives freely to His body. To all of His members in the function that we all have.

Sorry Overeager

Genesis 1.28-30
1. Does that actually say "God made a covenant with Adam"? All the other covenants actually have that word.

2. Was that plan for mankind stated BEFORE Eden was created, and was generic, to be fulfilled in Christ (see Heb 2)?

3. Did God not foresee that His ideal plan for humankind would be disrupted by Adam through disobedience, and that it is only Christ and His New Covenant which would actually bring "many sons to glory" unlike the earthy Eden?

We should not manufacture covenants out of thin air.

Genesis 1.28-30

[SUP]28 [/SUP]And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

[SUP]29 [/SUP]And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

[SUP]30 [/SUP]And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

Would one consider being born again in the Lord's eyes puts us sinless before God . Being in the kingdom puts us back in the garden where we are waiting for the Lord to arrive so we can fellowship once more with him in the cool of the day? Just thinking.

I've never heard of the edenic covenant either. But in thinking about it...I've been hearing about returning to the Garden. First in a poem I wrote, and then in a song from Crowders band.

Is that what you are saying?

And then adding to this, it would be the kingdom of God within? The garden of our heart?

I like that...Returning to the Garden...nice title.
'And you wrote the poem first before hearing a song with the same title?

Wow!

Genesis 1.28,

[SUP]28 [/SUP]And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

This Covenant is conditional and characterized by the formula if man DOES, God WILL...

It was made between God and Adam, with Adam standing in for all of humanity...

No man can subdue the earth...
And never could.

If you have received the holy spirit then you have been restored to Eden, there is only one source of the living water/the water of life

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Companion verse:

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

No man can subdue the earth...
And never could.

And the Bible proves you wrong....this never stops you from making hay out of sticks though....

When Jesus said all authority has been given to me....He gave us back what Satan stole from Adam....
