New King James Version
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, ?A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.?

Revelation 6:6
could very well be a reference to being able to ease the great tribulation and possibly affect the times at which the breaking of the seals occur. Being made the mercy on the earth for the replenishing of life and hope of repentance for the rest of civilization, but to be clear, the book of revelation is inevitable due to sin, and being backslidden. A reality where the Lord had relented and people repented of what appears to be hardly nothing.

So, if we look at what is being said it states simply that this is a matter of famine and scarcity. What we can acknowledge is that John speaking to the Lord resurrected and an angel at the time and being shown prophetic vision about the future during the great tribulation, which included occurences in heaven. In this case the four living creatures that were before the throne of the Lord saying "Holy, Holy, Holy" day and night tirelessly.

7The first living creature was like a lion, the second like a calf, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. 8And each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around and within. Day and night they never stop saying:

?Holy, Holy, Holy,

is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!?
Revelation 3:7-8

Now, Revelation 6:5 mentions a black horse, with a black rider holding a pair of scales
demonstrating what is hanging in the balance by darkness and loss.

In the midst of the four living creatures a voice is heard stating "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three
quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.

This very much can be interpretted that during this time, a man will have to live day by day, with no assurance of
the future, but when it says do not harm the oil and the wine, what is it saying? Is it saying that literal oil
and wine will be essential if not vital? Or is it saying something else?

If John was speaking to an angel showing him visions about the future and heaven then its very likely that there is
spiritual and parablic context to these statements.

The oil being the anointing of God's grace upon the person being made the elect of the time of the great tribulation and the wine being the substance of a man, the worthiness of his life.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1?Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6But at midnight there was a cry, ?Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.? 7Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said to the wise, ?Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.? 9But the wise answered, saying, ?Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.? 10And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ?Lord, lord, open to us.? 12But he answered, ?Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.? 13Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
Matthew 25:1-13

this and many other scriptures refer to being filled with the Holy Spirit to the point of overflowing.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows
Psalm 23:5

Plenty of cross references.
Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

and the parable of the wine and wineskins

The Patches and the Wineskins
(Mark 2:21?22; Luke 5:36?39)

16No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse tear will result.

17Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.?

So the Lord states that both the old and new is preserved.

To the Church in Philadelphia

7?And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ?The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

8??I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. 9Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie?behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. 10Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. 11I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. 12The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. 13He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.?
Revelation 3:7-13

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.

But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.
2 Peter 3:9-10

For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:6

Theres more to discuss surrounding the meaning of revelation 6:6 but I will leave it here for today, with a closing statement. It could be that the Lord is telling us to be delicate with the situation of today, and in the times to come.

God bless.

Different time than we are in now.

Do Not Worry
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? ...

“A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence,

and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee:

and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee;

and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.”
‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭5:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I will send the sword,

the famine,

and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭24:10‬ ‭

“And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭6:2, 4-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the sword , famine and pestilence and then the Jews being scattered into the nations

The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.”
‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭7:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it originates from the law the book no one could open but Jesus who fulfilled the law the curses in it the main ones are a sword to pursue israel , famine , pestilence and scattering then into all nations off the promised land

“And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours. And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭26:25-26, 30-33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For thus saith the Lord God; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?”
‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭14:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore thus saith the Lord; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.”

A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.?
Simply put, it means the global economy will be so inflated because of the Antichrist's oppression and the natural catastrophes. It will cost a whole day's wage (a denarius) to buy barely enough food for one meal (a quart of wheat/3 quarts of barley). Oil and wine will be delicacies because they are scarce resources.

Revelation 16 speaks of the Antichrist's global economy.
Revelation 17 speaks of the Antichrist's global religion.

This is during the 2nd half of the tribulation.

I think you mean Revelation 18 is the global economy, and Revelation 17 is the global religion. Revelation 16 is the 7 last plagues.

Opinions are wonderful. Enjoyable to read. But, they are just opinions when one is interpreting any Scripture.

Have a question for you, if you do not mind answering. Reading your Profile Page, you state that you "grew up" being a Christian. How does that work exactly? Or did you mean you grew up in a family where one or both parents were Christians, and in 2012 you became a believer? Was that when you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life?

I find it interesting to read the statements concerning Spiritual Status on Profile Pages. Lots to be learned there.

My condensed interpretation for Revelation 6:6

The third seal, when opened, reveals a black horse with a rider holding a pair of balances in his hand. The balance represents an economic system.

A voice heard from the midst of the four beasts say, “see thou hurt not the oil and the wine”. This means the economic system will be in the name of Jesus. It will bring prosperity because you will be able to buy more with a penny from purchasing one measure to three measures but with a substitute.

Psalm 104:15 King James Version

15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

Jeremiah 31:12-13 King James Version

12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

Jeremiah 33:9 King James Version

9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.

God bless.

Jesus Christ saves.
Thanks for your questions surrounding Rev 6:6.

"And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine."

I like that you compare scripture with scripture a bit, which is the best way to get at meaning. In similar comparison, consider that the voice in the midst is Jesus' voice. We know this because 'in the midst' is where we find Jesus when we look at other scriptures: "there am I in the midst of them" (Matt 18:20); "the tree of life also in the midst of the garden' (Gen 2:9), "I am the Lord in the midst of the earth" (Exodus 8:22)

In the Bible, God uses the term 'measure' in relation to his people in Christ: "Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. " The Bible continues, showing that the unsaved are not measured in this example: "But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: " Gentiles in this context means heathen, unsaved.

Once again, we look at the verse you want to understand:

" And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. "

So I think the voice in the midst is Jesus' voice, and the 'measure' is describing those who are in Christ. Now, we continue the verse and find that the thing measured is wheat. In the Bible, wheat is a picture of those who are saved. I do not need to mention how God separates the wheat from the tares. Also, we read: "he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." So, the wheat in Rev 6:6, the verse that you want to understand, is likely describing saved believers. Similarly, barley is likely describing saved believers. The promised land is: "A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey ". The fact that barley is present, shows that it is a picture of them in the saved land and not the unsaved. The verse concludes: "and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. " The oil in the Bible seems to be related to the annointing of the Holy Spirit, the holy Spirit being available to saved persons. Similarly, wine is described in the Bible as the fruit of the vine. Of course, Jesus says that he is the vine. It seems that Rev 6:6 tells us that the Holy Spirit and the fruits of the Spirit are still available to the saved persons at the time under consideration. The verse does not say: do away with the oil and the wine. No, it says see thou hurt not the oil and the wine!

It is interesting that the people in Christ (the wheat and the barley) are for a penny. That either means that the people of Christ are sold or bought. The term 'penny' is a translation of denarion, which is a Roman silver coin of about ten quantities of value. Silver in the Bible often has to do with redeeming. In my opinion, Rev 6:6 is describing God redeeming (saving) his own people. The salvation of God's people is a transaction bought with a price. We are bought with a price, Jesus himself.
