There is a new emphasis being given to speaking in tongues presently----this is a gift (Holy Spirit) not to be neglected...----let me tell you about two experiences---- *a few years ago I was speaking/praying in tongues for about an bour----later in the day on the news I heard a terrorist had been caught--- the Lord impressed me it was praying in tongues that assisted.. ****my pastor was praying/talking in tongues and saw a vision of his prayers going into China....grace

Personal experiences and/or "impressions" can be very misleading.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!! How about the revival of the gospel please anyone... seriously though... It is absolutely nutcase crazy how many people put a massive emphasis on tongues. I dont mind having a conversation about tongues, but to suggest tongues is normal or ought to be apart of the Christians life is ridiculous. Tongues is a gift given to some not all, given for a specific purpose to build up the church and as a sign to jews not personal edification because thats not what its for. And for hints never give an argument from experience BECAUSE EXPERIENCE DOES NOT DETERMINE TRUTH!!! I really dont care what you said or did or will do tell me about the Word Of God because it is THE WORD WHICH DETERMINES TRUTH NOT YOUR EXPERIENCES.

I know that there are enough threads floating around concerning tongues right now . . . but I just would like to say . . . tongues is a "manifestation of the spirit" (1 Cor. 12:7) - there is ONE gift given to ALL believers (Acts 2:38), i.e. the gift of holy spirit and in that ONE gift are nine manifestations. Just as with the "fruit of the spirit" - ONE fruit but nine manifestations of that "fruit" in a believer's life. (Galatians 5:22,23). The manifestation of tongues is for personal edification (1 Cor. 14:4) as well as edification of the body of believers, i.e. the church, if interpreted. (1 Cor. 14:5)

I'm addressing the prayer tongue, the personal language we are given to practice.
Many born again believers have it , perhaps all, and don't know it, they have not been instructed in how
to trust to practice it, and it does take trust that He will guide your spirit to say the words you are given, let go and let G-d.
He will grow all of us as much as we will allow. Peter denied Jesus, yet after that Jesus told him He would build His church upon Peter, His rock. In Acts we see Peter reached a point where people would lay out their sick along the path He took to the synagogue close enough his shadow might be cast on them and they were healed, there was no special power in his shadow, the presence of the Holy Spirit was so profound healing emanated through him.
He's the same , yesterday, today and forever.

Yes and I was praying in Pig Latin when the wall between east and west Germany fell .Sounds like some might be trying to temp other Christians to go above that which is written?

Jesus saw a vision without moving one inch but said it is written again and again .Experiencing a vision is not the validator of spiritual truth.Scripture alone is. Christians walk by the faith of God (the unseen).

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.Mat 4:7

What some call out of the body experiences is simply lying spirits bringing lies in. It is on the increase today . Makes a person wonder when Christ comes will he find his faith working in the heart of a person to both will and do His good pleasure.

Grace to you as well!

JUDGES 12:5 And the Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? When he said, No,
JUDGES 12:6 they said to him, Then say Shibboleth, and he said, Sibboleth, for he could not pronounce it right. Then they seized him and slaughtered him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time 42,000 of the Ephraimites fell.

I remembered this too

PSALMS 137:1 Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem.
PSALMS 137:2 We put away our lyres, hanging them on the branches of the willow trees.
PSALMS 137:3 For there our captors demanded a song of us. Our tormentors requested a joyful hymn: "Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!"

PSALMS 137:4 But how can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land?

The Bible is the final authority---all revelation is judge by it---revelation is not judge by denominations and our preferences...

2 Timothy 3-5
New International Version
having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

New Living Translation
They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

English Standard Version
having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
I believe we see this each day in these times, He who is the same, yesterday, today and forever, died to bring us the Paraclete and many now reject Him for an outward form and stay stuck on the scripture refusing what the scripture
guides them to grow in.

We have misery synod lutherans near here, I have prayed with and for some as directed by the Holy Spirit, one was healed of cancer miraculously yet insisted on receiving chemotherapy "just to be safe", now his body G-d healed has been ravaged by the
poison of chemotherapy, he may never be the same. I attended many of their services and Bible studies, sat next to people who had Bibles 6 inches thick when you can write micah 6-8, "what is that which is required of you? To seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your G-d" on a 3x5 card and it will take a lifetime to walk it out.
They seem content with staying at salvation when He died to bring us so much more as we supposed to desire growing in Him, not merely knowing about Him.
We lost the truth of the scripture when churches inculcated people that salvation was through the church, not in relationship
with the living G-d through the mediator Jesus Christ.
We see that here in the way some post, not adding to the discussion just tearing down what some relate in how G-d is working in their lives.
From the very beginning the Bible presents a G-d who is present in the lives of His Created, interacting with them in the garden "in the cool of the evening", repeatedly the books of the Bible open with how a vision was given, a word of knowledge, a prophecy which was then written that we might grow in Him and be DOERS of the Word and NOT HEARERS ONLY.
Nobodies church died for their sins, yet we have people in the rut of attending a service on Sunday and daydreaming about the Packers or Bears game thinking the G-d who knew them when they were first conceived isn't aware of them as they
practice their outward form double mindedness, rejecting the abundant life He offers them.
In the short time I have been here it is obvious some offer G-dly wisdom to others to grow, some merely post to reject, vilify, disparage the active vital relationship in Christ their brothers and sisters have.
"By their fruits you shall know them", that's what the Word says.

No, it is Misery. :D Sorry that was the nickname all us outsiders gave it when I went to college their years ago. And the people from Missouri, (or maybe it was only Springfield and St Louis) pronounced it Missoura. Very weird.
"Missouri", not "misery". Sorry

why be so rude to a person who thread is biblical yet not accepted? it is ok you disagree please do can you not do so respectfully? you said that this gift is ridiculous if one suggest as the "gifts of the holy Spirit " are to be normal in the Christians life? the Truth be told Paul was actually teaching that they should be in chapter 12, 13, and 14 of 1 cor.

The kingdom of God is within a born again believer.

BUT! The kingdom of heaven is the ruling power of God almighty through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ who sent Holy Spirit to His body on earth to fulfill His mission and to work the same works and even more so for we are many now, that He did!

The Kingdom of heaven or ruling authority is only taken by force but it is not force of mans will or even mans faith. It is only the force or the power of Holy Spirit moving in and through the believer.

Dunamis! He is like the very lightning strike from heaven! Men will shake in His power and speak in new tongues the language of heaven itself.

This is what began at Pentecost! This continues to the day when men of God are perfected or caught up wholly (Holy) into Him!

Then that which is in part becomes whole for it is the day when men walk one with God, and live, move, have their entire being in Him.

Ye must...I repeat! Must be filled with His Spirit!
