Yes, I do think this is the way things end up unfortunately.
Very few people can remain humble in positions of authority/leadership along with the fact that most people have a price, given the right offer/temptation many people will succumb.
Even wealthy people are not immune.
"Government of laws and not of men" was not immune to corruption either it seems.
We all have our faults. Every country..........But whoever can FREELY preach the Gospel will be blessed. When America loses that freedom, look out or look for another that can FREELY preach the Gospel.
Americas downfall will come from the suppression of His Gospel and His Church.......Not from the politicians making secular choices.
