I have always viewed it one way. Then by way of application I could make applications from the text.

Now I am asking you, is this spoken to believers only, or is it to show a contrast between a godly person and the

Here is the verse: For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. It is speaking about the second death (since all are subject to physical death).

In effect it is saying that a person who claims to be a Christian but lives under the control of his sin nature ("the flesh") is in fact "carnally minded" (controlled by the flesh). Which means that this person is not really saved, and will eventually face the second death or eternal separation from God. So this person must repent and be converted, in order to be "spiritually minded" (controlled by the Holy Spirit). This person will also have eternal life, as well as peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Roman’s 8: 6 is part of a concept that begins here in chaoter 6 regarding baptism and death in Christ

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Yes...you get it. The two elders stretched all the way back to Romans 3:18 and went forward to Romans 8:12.
The main thought was that if we are not living upon Christ, what are we substituting in place of Him? Our works, our righteousness?

I agree that all believers are to grow in grace. If growth is not happening progressively a person would have to examine themselves , a spiritual check up.

from 6-8 is one of the most important and powerful concepts in all of Paul’s writings because it’s telling us how we are tied to Christs death and resurrection by faith and what it means tonus effectually and tangibly to change our ways without doing it ourselves but through belief
