A friend of mine sent me this link and I thought it brought up a good point:
What does virtual rumor-mongering say about Christians? http://www.abpnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4496&Itemid=53
In this article they imply that there's a very old rumor that Procter and Gamble is a Satanist company. I've known many people in my day who would spread that very kind of rumour. Now, they would do so without knowing that it was false, and they'd tell others with only the best of intentions. But, it just woudln't seem to occure to them that they don't know wether or not it's true. And what kind of a Christian doesn't care about truth? I care very much about truth. I don't repeat facts unless I can say what reliable source I got it from. If I don't know, than I make sure I mention that first so the listener or reader knows to take it with a grain of salt. See, to me, I think lying goes beyond intentional deception. Repeating false information that you don't know if false is still harmful. But most of all, when Christians develop a reputation of being gulible, then the rest of society becomes dismissive of Christiantiy. If Christians were known as critical thinkers who like to get their facts straight and value truth, than maybe we'd be taken more seriously.
