The most awkward situation is when you want to have your daughter or son to be in a right relationship and see them make the same mistakes over and over. Naomi did the hook up for Ruth and this kind of thing now is considered an off limits topic for today. Please help me to not want to get involved
 
I love the story of Ruth and Boaz. (I gave my daughter the middle name of Ruth).

Concerning what your talking about from a parental perspective.....I can't fully imagine since my children are yet small.....BUT...from an adult perspective....I can tell you that you have to trust the job you did as a parent. You have to understand that your relationship changes with your adult children....and that the choices they make no longer come under your authority but under Gods.
I speak this from experience because my former husbands parents were very *involved* in his life. They refused to let him go (leave and cleave)...and they enabled him in all the wrong ways :( I would like to have the belief that if they would have backed off and let us work on our marriage then we would still be married today.

Instead they got more and more involved to the point of dragging him away from his responsibilities by buying him a house and fancy SUV. (in no way am I saying that this is what you are doing @ all....just shareing my experience)

I am sure from the parental perspective it is so hurtful so see your (adult) children make choices that you do not approve of.....you can give advice and opinion....and of course pray continually....but that is where God takes over.

Giving advice when you see them making bad decisions is good. But just point out they don't need to
do what you are telling them. Just ask them to listen. You'll get a much better response and they will
usually listen since the "your wrong" mindset has been removed.
 
For me I think its very important. All the women in my family could have saved a lot of heartbreak if they had just consulted their family on their boyfriend/spouse to be..
My mother certainly doesnt choose men for me but I do require that she look at their character and give me her solid advice and thoughts etc . I dont necessarily follow her advice I just take it on board..
