a.) The word "published" in Acts 10:37, from the KJV, does not mean "published" in the modern sense... it has nothing to do with WRITTEN records.
Yes, I am very well aware of that. In fact I checked the Greek before posting. And yes, I am speculating on certain matters, however there is historical precedent for writing important historical things down bro....

Cv5,
I try to encourage everyone to use good evidence and good arguments.
I bring that up a lot, because I feel it's important.
But I'm sure I can be annoying... life is difficult with one giant eyeball.

You take care, and have a great week.

So what is your opinion? 5 or 3 crucifixions?

Wow that is an amazing video presentation. A keeper. Thanks bro.

Looks like I am purchasing the E.W. Bullinger's Companion Bible in short order....(y)
Just so you know... these Appendixes can be found online for FREE:

(click on the LINK where it says "Appendixes" and then look for #164 regarding the topic of "The 'Others' Crucified with the Lord" in the column at the RIGHT side)

Appendixes to The Companion Bible (levendwater.org)

[I personally own a hard-copy of it... but this link is in case you don't want to shell out any bucks... Totally up to you, I just wanted to inform you :) ]

Just "speculating", but I wonder how many of these "things" being "delivered" (paradidōmi) were more than face to face eyewitness testimony? I would think more than a little.....;)

Luk 1:1
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

Luk 1:2
Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

Luk 1:3
It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

Luk 1:4
That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

Thought it be intresting to direct you scripture scholars on the answers this man poses instead of tearing each other apart by personal opinions.
I look for things like this to see what the enemy has been up to. Reading the comments on this post many agree with his observations.
Can anyone here set him straight on his false findings? Or is he right.
The resurrection is the core of our belief. How would you respond? Or do we live by blind faith?

Unless someone watches the 11:34 minute video I don't think they can condemn nor applaud its content.

Everything this professor talks about is comparative to the scripture differing accounts. Or, as pertains to the actual anonymity of the gospel books authors and dates, is something that is a historical fact. And is taught as such in seminaries and bible colleges.

The title of the video itself I think is meant to be inflammatory and cause conflict. But, what Dr. Ehrman says is all true.

I will say I don't like lecturers that speak in loud tones as he does.

You got that right...he is the enemy and that of God.

I vaguely recall, but wasn't he on a translation committee for one of the popular versions? Bruce Metzger comes to mind.

The translation that Bart Ehrman was in a very limited way involved with was the NRSV.

We have a more sure word of prophecy. Did this lecturer conveniently forget about that?

Keep in mind......that was not a debate it was pretty much a straight up diatribe and attack.
A competent debater could easily destroyed this guy.

You are giving him far too much credit. To me he sounded like a raving idiot.

Thanks. I forgot.

I've heard him quoted by a few professing Christian pastors like he was some kind of textual critic worth listening to.

My response was,
"Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge."

If we're talking about the video uploaded to post#50, I did not find it compelling.

Each point in his argument could be explained multiple ways, so when he claimed otherwise, his claims just seemed extremely ad hoc.

So... I suppose the "5 crucifixion theory" is possible, but I didn't find it compelling because the claims were overstated, and all the points seemed ad hoc to me.

I also don't think it's that important, since it doesn't seem to affect any Christian doctrine.

Take care.

Well I don't have time to debate every hackneyed apostate. There are just too many of them......
Bart Ehrman isn't just a "hackneyed" apostate... he's quite an extraordinary apostate.
: )
I don't pay any attention to him either, not unless an atheist brings him up and has questions.

I wasn't referring to any hackneyed apostate. I was referring to Bart Ehrman.

It's OK to admit you can't debate his points and you only accept the contemporary written New Testament versions. Not every Christian is aware of the history behind the gospel present day appearance in a scripture.

Below is P-52. A fragment of the gospel of John dated to 2nd century A.D.

Keeping in mind we do not have the original scrolls containing the gospels.
What we do have are copies of innumerable copies of and beyond the originals.

And that the gospel first spread by word of mouth , the original written accounts are what would be called hearsay. Because original records do not exist for review.

And that's understandable when later copies beyond the originals are mostly fragments today.
