Eh. Secular human society functions well under the notion that all human beings are equal. That means I have no right to arbitrarily kill you. In the case of America's policy of pro-choice abortion that no longer applies to all human beings. Because the human beings being aborted do not have a choice.
As for same-sex marriage, secular marriage seems pretty meaningless and arbitrary because it lacks a foundation in higher values. It can be made and broken almost at will (although there are different levels of marriage according to law that are harder to nullify). The only real function it serves is one of tax breaks and other benefits that may function merely as trade-offs in the long run. So it's difficult to say if it has any value at all in the secular world. And it's just as difficult then for me to understand exactly why homosexuals want to get married. Aren't most non-religious people of the opinion that marriage is a quaint - though largely meaningless - ceremony? But looking at it from a secular point of view equal rights is best. It would just suck if the couple wanted to truly be joined in a full union by having a child of their own flesh and blood. They'd have to adopt or remain childless. I guess that's one right God reserves for heterosexuals thus far. And from a religious point of view, each will bear their own guilt. But when Israel revolted against God the righteous were taken away into captivity with the wicked. So a society's decisions and moral character do affect all living within that society.
