Lucifer is personified spite.
I used to wonder why the devil tries so hard. He lost, it's over, there's nothing he can really do to make his lot any better now. Why not just sit down, shut up and try to not do any more damage?
But he can't, because his pride won't let him. He can't have the world, but he can still wreck it. All he has is one last act of spite, but it's a long act and he will take it. He is driven to ruin people because he hates God and God loves people. He can't NOT do all he can to ruin people.
We're told we should hate the devil, but more than anything else I pity him.
I think of him as a means God uses to teach and/or discipline me.
I know he can't possess me as I'm in Christ. However, he can influence my thinking through temptation.
The armour of God is sufficient to resist the devil.
I have no pity for Satan/Lucifer. He made his choice, was cast out of Heaven & stands condemned.

I first think of Lucifer the cat from Cinderella.
Otherwise I think of Lucifer the Devil. Generally, I think of him as an insignificant being when compared to God and more of a background figure. However the reality is that he is very powerful so I need to remind myself of that sometimes.
