The answer is "Yes", we are saved by faith alone.
Using your reasoning, would the phrase "walked to the store" be equivalent to the phrase "walked to the store alone"?

That does not mean works are irrelevant. Works are very much required for our salvation.
This verbiage is nonsense.

Alone means exclusive, there is no room for anything else.

If salvation is by faith alone then works (regardless of there nature) are certainly irrelevant.

If you are going to be a follower of faith alone regeneration theology don't be a lukewarm follower.

However, these works are an outcome of our salvation as per Eph. 2:10 which says that our salvation is "unto good works". If we remove the word "alone" from faith, it implies that we can do something outside of Jesus for our salvation which we cannot. According to Phi. 1:6, it is God who began a good work in us and he will continue to do so until Jesus returns. What is that good work that God is doing in us? It is transformation. We are being transformed into the image of Christ as we walk in the Spirit. It is this transformation that is causing us to do good works.
You need to get off the fence.

Regardless of what "works" you do or do not do has no effect on your salvation.

rom 2:6-8

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

vs 6 renders eternal life to those who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality.

"is not at all set forth as the means of their procuring eternal life, but as a description"do those who obey unrighteousness get rewarded with the wrath of God?
thks
Try not to confuse 'descriptive' passages of scripture with 'prescriptive' passages of scripture. These good deeds done are the result of, not the means or basis of procuring eternal life.

Again, patient continuance in well doing, seeking for glory, honor, and immortality; (vs. 7) is not at all set forth as the means of their procuring eternal life, but as a description of those to whom God does render life eternal.

*Notice that ALL who receive eternal life are described as such, everyone who does good (vs. 10). Good deeds flow from a heart that is saved and evil deeds flow from a heart that is unsaved. Verse 8 - but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath.

*Notice that ALL who do not receive eternal life are described as such, everyone who does evil (vs. 9). What those passages convey is that though our deeds are judged by God, it's not the good deeds themselves which are the basis or means by which we procure eternal life, but the type of deeds expose our heart condition and salvation status.

These good deeds done out of faith are the fruit of, but not the root of salvation. If Paul wanted to teach that we are saved by works, then he would have clearly stated that we are saved through faith and works in Ephesians 2:8 and that we are justified by faith and works in Romans 5:1 but that is clearly NOT what Paul said. *Also see (Romans 3:24-28; 4:4-6; 11:6; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9 etc..).
we belong to God in holiness!
Those who are justified have been sanctified set apart/made holy in standing before God positionally in Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:11 - Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God, which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus.

Yet we also see progressive or ongoing sanctification in which the reality of that holiness becomes more and more evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, - For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.

So, becoming washed, sanctified and justified in Christ is a one-time event, yet abstaining from sexual immorality is not a one-time event. Here is how I understand it. The believer possesses a positional, judicial standing of righteousness in Christ and, second, an ongoing process of growth in practical, progressive holiness which becomes increasingly evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives.
1 cor 6:15-20

15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Amen! Now try not to confuse positional and practical sanctification, with self righteousness.
We belong to God and have no right to sin or sell ourselves in bondage to the reformation plantation!
Who said otherwise? Reformation plantation? lol I can see that the RC church has really done a number on you.

I see that you completely ignored post #2940. 🚩
Romans 6:23 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

1 Peter 1:9
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
the tradition of the reformation say full eternal salvation happens the first moment we believe!

eternity for one microscopic split second act of faith!

You mean Romans 6:22. Romans 6:23 actually reads - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

There are 3 tenses to salvation that often get confused by works-salvationists, especially Roman Catholis. 1. Justification 2. Sanctification 3. Glorification

You are citing verses that pertain to future glorification, in which those who have been (past tense with ongoing present results) saved from the PENALTY of sin (justification) will be (future tense) saved from the PRESENCE of sin (glorification)

Romans 8:30 - Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. *ALL of them. *Notice how Paul uses the past tense for a future event to stress its certainty.

If you had to stand before the Lord today, would you point to your works, or would you point to Jesus Christ alone?

Our good works are an evidence that we are walking with the Lord. If we do not cooperate with the Holy Spirit, then we won't be doing any good works. Good works are an act of cooperation with the Holy Spirit. Read John 10:37-38

Good works certainly do give evidence that we are walking with the Lord. Ephesians 2:10 - For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

This is why Scripture can honestly be called both the Word of God and the writings of men.
We have a problem here Wansvic.

Please read this post carefully.

You used the phrase "the Word of God" the "Word" means Jesus Christ not a N.T that did not exist, when these letters
were written.

Many seem to think that when they see "the word" that the author is signifying the N.T and that also may not be correct.

There are actually three different Greek expressions that English translations often render as "the word", and they do not
always mean the same thing.

ὁ Λόγος (ho Logos) – "the Word" as a title for Christ (John 1:1, 1:14; 1 John 1:1; Revelation 19:13).

A capital W is appropriate because it is a person.

ὁ λόγος (ho logos) – literally "the message," "the saying," "the account," "the statement," "the speech," or "the matter."

This is by far the most common use. It does not automatically mean Scripture or the New Testament.

When Paul's letters, Acts, and the Gospels were being written, there was no completed New Testament canon.

Therefore, whenever Paul says things like "the word of God" or "the word of Christ," he cannot be referring to a bound
New Testament as we know it today.

I will let AI complete this post due to the lack of time available to step through the occurrences of "the word". In the N.T
or similar phrases.

Instead, the context usually points to one of these:

the gospel being preached,
God's spoken message,
the apostolic proclamation,
Christ's own teaching,
or, occasionally, the Old Testament Scriptures.

Below are several places where English translations may encourage readers to think of the Bible when the Greek probably
points elsewhere
.

Reference Common translation Possible contextual rendering
Acts 6:2 the word of God the message of God
Acts 6:7 the word of God increased God's message spread
Acts 8:4 preached the word proclaimed the message
Acts 8:14 received the word of God received God's message
Acts 10:36 the word the message sent to Israel
Acts 11:1 received the word of God accepted God's message
Acts 12:24 the word of God grew God's message spread
Acts 13:5 proclaimed the word of God proclaimed God's message
Acts 13:26 this word of salvation this message of salvation
Acts 13:44 hear the word of God hear God's message
Acts 14:3 spoke the word spoke the message
Acts 15:7 hear the word of the gospel hear the gospel message
Acts 17:11 received the word received the message
Acts 18:11 taught the word of God taught God's message
Acts 19:10 heard the word heard the message
Acts 20:32 the word of His grace the message of His grace

Paul uses the expression similarly.

Reference Common translation Likely meaning
Romans 10:8 the word of faith the message of faith
Romans 10:17 hearing by the word of Christ hearing through Christ's message
1 Corinthians 1:18 the word of the cross the message of the cross
1 Corinthians 2:1 excellency of speech ("word") eloquent speech
2 Corinthians 5:19 committed unto us the word of reconciliation the message of reconciliation
Galatians 6:6 taught in the word taught in the message
Ephesians 1:13 the word of truth the message of truth
Ephesians 5:26 with the word with His spoken word/message
Ephesians 6:17 the word of God God's spoken message
Philippians 2:16 the word of life the message of life
Colossians 1:5 the word of the truth the true message
Colossians 3:16 let the word of Christ dwell in you let Christ's message dwell in you
1 Thessalonians 1:6 received the word received the message
1 Thessalonians 2:13 the word of God which you heard from us God's message that you heard from us
2 Thessalonians 3:1 the word of the Lord the Lord's message

The General Epistles are similar.

Reference Possible rendering
James 1:21 receive the implanted message
James 1:22 be doers of the message
1 Peter 1:23 through the living and abiding message of God
1 Peter 2:8 disobey the message
1 John 2:5 whoever keeps His message
Hebrews 4:2 the message they heard
Hebrews 4:12 the word of God (here the context may genuinely refer to God's living utterance rather than simply Scripture)
John is different

John deliberately uses ὁ Λόγος ("the Word") as a title.

John 1:1
John 1:14
1 John 1:1 ("the Word of life")
Revelation 19:13 ("His name is called The Word of God")

Here, the capitalization is appropriate because "the Word" is a divine person, Jesus Christ.

A general observation

Reading the New Testament in its own historical setting, many instances of "the word" are probably better understood as "the message" or "the gospel message." This avoids an anachronism in which modern readers unconsciously substitute "the New Testament" into passages written before such a collection existed.

For example:

"The word of the cross" (1 Corinthians 1:18) naturally means the message about Christ's crucifixion.

"The word of faith" (Romans 10:8) means the message of faith that Paul was preaching.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly" (Colossians 3:16) is naturally understood as let Christ's teaching
and message dwell in you, since Paul was writing before the New Testament canon had been completed.

So while not every occurrence should be changed, a substantial number of lower-case "the word" passages could be translated more transparently as "the message," "the proclamation," "the teaching," or "the gospel," depending on the immediate context. This better reflects the range of the Greek word logos and the historical context in which the New Testament documents were written.

End AI.

1 Corinthians 2:2
For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

the Greek word baptizō, meaning "to immerse, dip, or plunge."
You can have a dip and not a plunge according to the meaning of baptizo.

You have taken an early physical, ritual cleansing of John and turned it into a major doctrine.

I prefer to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and with fire as Jesus baptizes.

If good works are evidence of walking with the Lord then is walking with the Lord evidence of a correct theology?
Yes, if you read Rom. 8, it speaks of walking in the Spirit which is nothing but walking with the Lord.

Has he saved you. Or has he not?

Are you saved?
Do you have eternal life?
Do you have Jesus promise you will have eternal life and not come to judgment?
Have you recieved every spiritual blessing under heaven?
Are you sitting in the heavenly places?

Jesus promised all of these and more..

Are they you hope that you have, in assurance, or are you hoping you might get them?
I am being saved. I have aeonous lfe. I have the holy Spirit in me. I am not under judgment. I am receiving every spiritua; blessing in heavenly places in Christ Jesus through His great and precious promises. I am seated with Him in heavenly places. I know I have aeonous life because I love the brethren.

If good works are evidence of walking with the Lord then is walking with the Lord evidence of a correct theology?

After passing the point of salvation?
It then depends.... Correct theology?

Satan's boys will love to distort and counterfeit what the Bible teaches.

We all faced it, and is to be part of our testing after we are saved.

If you do not believe that?
Look at all the warnings the Bible has about wrong teachings.

Its why we find so many things done today in churches that are not right with God.

One common one is tithing for the church.

According to Calvinism, all those who are saved were already saved from the foundation of the world. What would they say when those very people apostatize? They were not truly saved which means there was a fault in God's predestination.

If good works are evidence of walking with the Lord then is walking with the Lord evidence of a correct theology?
While walking with the Lord demonstrates a relationship with the Lord, it is not necessarily evidence of flawless theology. Walking with the Lord requires a relationship with the Lord and not on perfect theological knowledge.

Apostates who are saved will not lose their salvation.

Just look at what Samuel told King Saul after he sought out the witch of Endor.

1 Samuel 28:19...

The Lord will hand you and Israel over to the Philistines! Tomorrow both you and your sons will be with me.
The Lord will also hand the army of Israel over to the Philistines!”

Samuel was definitely saved.
Saul was going to be punished for his terrible sin of seeking out a witch.
But, Samuel told Saul that he and his sons were going to be with him after dying in battle.

They could not lose their salvation even after Saul committed a sin onto death.

The concept of salvation did not exist in the OT. The OT saints just believed in the unknown Messaiah which qualified them to be saved. When Samuel told Saul that he would be with him, it did not mean salvation. It meant physical death.
