I feel it important to warn those that are not aware: Scammers target Christians and prey on their good nature and on their unfulfilled needs.
Staple Rule No 1: NEVER SEND MONEY - bottom line is, down the track some 'tragedy' will occur in their life where they are desperate and you are the 'only one that understands' them and can help them.
Keeping that golden rule in mind, here are some of the characteristics they exhibit:
* they will try and draw an intimate closeness with you, and make you feel you are in some way 'special'. Many times there is a 'big' age difference and the person will naturally want to 'protect their good fortune' by giving in to their wishes.
* this usually happens fairly quickly; on some singles sites the 'love' and magical attraction will occur almost instantly or in a matter of days...
* they then don't contact you for some time, making you 'miss them' and wonder where they are...
* after that they come up with some 'tragic event' and ask for money, and almost always its using a 'western union' transfer...
* many of them, when you end up dragging their name or bank account details (you have to work hard for this info) out of them, have a 'male assistant' who actually 'is them'...
* they tend to have a yahoo messenger account, which they keep invisible to those they don't want to know they are online...
* the pictures they send do not add up as being the same person; sometimes they even get the eye colour wrong on their profiles on some singles sites and ages are totally out of range...
* many have lost their life savings due to these types, and some even took their own life after losing everything...
* a number of them come from Nigeria, but they have a world-wide base...
* the 'beautiful woman' you think you are talking to is probably some 'out of shape' male from Nigeria who didn't bathe for some days..., or a stocky middle-aged cigar smoking male from some out of the way country - who is counting the $$$ coming in from a range of others scammed...., or in the case of a woman, the 'handsome man' is probably a photo taken from another person who was scammed or off the net
* they try variations of a number of different scenarios, ie: inheritances, diamond or gold mines - where you are required to let them use your bank account in exchange for 5% or so of billions of dollars for some minor legal technicality in which only you can help or would be 'silly' not to 'take advantage of'...
* they will also do their research to make it appear as though they are from an area they say they are
* they will quote bible verses and 'appear Christian', whereas some reports have indicated they are probably muslim and don't care about Christians, or are just lacking a conscience..., and some of they are desperate for cash, working for a larger organisation...
* they usually ALWAYS don't want to cam with you, for that will reveal their identity; and say 'they don't have one' or cant afford one...and try that way to also suck money out of you..., altho some clever ones do use a cam as well, but they have to be very organised for that, and they don't have time to muck around many of them, but some WILL PERSIST for a long time with you, along with a number of others they have on a string...
* when they chat with you, there are long lags sometimes with responses, as they are also chatting with others they are scamming, and have to 'go' all of a sudden 'very quickly'....very common..., whereas when talking with a genuine person it can last for hours---however, always remember there are exceptions too...some are more dedicated and cunning than others...
* ask them for photos of them with others, see if the photos match up with those ones they sent..., also ask for a video of them from a smartphone, these days anyone can do that...
* usually they appear out of nowhere and there is an instant 'intensity' about their relationship with you, usually on some emotional or sexual level...(they will suss you out first)
* many of them their English is either poor and they cant spell, or some of them, they are so busy chatting with others they abbreviate a lot, make spelling mistakes in short responses as they are responding to a range of others...
* they sleep very little, and stay up long hours..., as they are scamming a range of others as well....
* when they disappear, or say they are going on a 'business trip'...., they end up in some remote country ie: Nigeria or Africa or some remote place, and have had their passport and money stolen and need your financial help to get them out of some dire situation that will be very urgent and critical for them, and prey on the 'emotional connection' they created with you, and your feelings to 'get them out' and promise they will come and 'see you' and spend X amount of time with you - if its a romantic-sexual-marriage based ploy, preying on the persons needs and desires....
* DO a 'reverse trace' on any mobile number they give you and see if it adds up, and/or if it is from the country and area they say they are from...
ANY variation of the above also keep in mind occurs - and some; very few 'appear intelligent' enough to convince the unwary person, OR are just very very cunning....but they are seeded in amongst the really dumb ones...
Just be VERY VERY CAREFUL...and QUESTION EVERYTHING ...until well and truly verified...
...and NEVER NEVER NEVER send any money nor give personal details to them...
...verify by cam first, then other means before further deeper contact that is PROVABLE !!!
They may use any VARIATION of the above mentioned and exhibit any variations of those tendencies...
I have had experience with them for years, and none of them got anything out of me..., and I pray they don't turn someone here into a victim or elsewhere either...Sometimes I have gone along with them...to see what they say and identify their patterns until they eventually ask for money...
...if you suspect someone and get a gut feeling something is repeatedly wrong - REPORT THEM !!
