Sometimes in my walk I have eagerly desired greater gifts. You know like the showy gifts like prophecy, miracles, healing. But in my reading of 1 Corinthians 13 I’m reminded of the greater gift, the one we all possess in Christ, LOVE. Paul gives instructions on the gifts in chapter 12 and then ends it with the most beautiful line, “ and yet I will show you the most excellent way”.
In our hunger for growth we should never discount or overlook love. For it is by our Love that others will know that we belong to Christ. Those others gifts are great and useful for building the kingdom. But Jesus when separating the goats from the sheep condemns some. Then they rebut Lord didn’t we prophesy in your name and didn’t we work miracles etc. he says I never knew you. God is love, and it is only through receiving his love can we love others. Don’t mistake your works for love.
