This is telling, who is going to pay for protection to those involved in extortion when looters are running wild? Extortion is no longer "their thing" when everyone is a criminal and thief.
Also there have been news stories, hard to verify, of massive victories against the cartel. If true the drug dealers may not have anything to sell and won't be able to get anything any time soon, so might as well pack up and leave.
Drug gangs are composed of kids with a few adults at the top. Life expectancy is very low and even if you aren't killed by the time you get to your twenties you are probably in prison.

If you shut down the drugs coming across the border, discover their tunnels and shut those down, interdict the ships they use to try and smuggle stuff in, well nationwide kids will leave the gangs in mass.

In the movie the Godfather, based on a true story, one family wants to sell drugs and they will need the help of the other families judges. Vito refuses to offer this help because he says his judges didn't sign on to selling drugs to kids. That was what kicked off the war between the families. The Corleone family then moves to Vegas to run gambling, a semi legit business.
In the same way think of the Federal government as a mafia family and all these democrat run cities a different mafia family. They coexisted for awhile, but ultimately if the Federal government doesn't clean up the drugs, crime and trafficking then they lose their power just as Vito saw he would lose his judges.
Trump, like Michael, is simply like a mafia kingpin. He is taking out the other families, there was a lot of intrigue, because in the end you can't have multiple heads. The speed with which they can shut down the drug gangs and human trafficking exposes the lies and hypocrisy we have been told for years about how hard it is.
This doesn't mean there are white hats and black hats. I grew up in a town where the police were completely controlled by the mafia. We had very little crime because the mafiosos don't want crime where they live and when someone did step out of line they ended up dead in the ocean. What I saw is that most mafiosos are killed by other mafiosos. If they were united then yes, we would have the one world government of the Antichrist and the world would be a hellscape. The reason they aren't united is because they are cursed to each be seeking their own thing. The reason we can live in godliness and all honesty while the whole world lies in the evil one is because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. People in organized crime are not all psychopaths and sociopaths, some have a conscience and all they need is the gospel and some prayer.

Operation Pacific Viper: U.S. Coast Guard Announces Largest Drug Offload in its History

The Coast Guard achieved its largest-ever drug seizure in a single operation in its history
Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton offloaded over 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs, valued at $473 million, at Port Everglades, Florida as part of Operation Pacific Viper. This offload included approximately 61,740 pounds of cocaine and approximately 14,400 pounds of marijuana.
This is the largest drug offload in Coast Guard history.
This is the first major offload of Operation Pacific Viper, a historic partnership between the Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy that is surging forces to the Eastern Pacific to cut off drugs and human smuggling before they ever reach American shores. As part of this operation, the Coast Guard conducted 19 interdictions in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. They are defending the Homeland with overwhelming force.
With a lethal dose of cocaine being as little as 1.2 grams, the amount offloaded by Hamilton’s crew is enough to potentially kill 23 million people.
“The Coast Guard continues leading U.S. efforts to control, secure, and defend the U.S. border and maritime approaches,” said Admiral Kevin Lunday, Acting Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. “The cutter HAMILTON’s record-breaking offload is the latest demonstration of the success of Operation Pacific Viper, the Coast Guard’s aggressive operations to defeat drug smugglers at sea in the Eastern Pacific Ocean near Central and South America. Why are the democrats having a problem with this, denying the crime, and wanting their cities to be sanctuary cities? I don't know, but I do know that criminal gangs paying off government officials is the norm, not the exception.

From what I understand, some of the big cities are sanctuaries for illegals. On top of that there's a large percentage of crime percapita. They became accustomed to the BLM looting with thousands clearing out businesses. The same people are finding opportunities to do it again when theft is tolerated with no consequences.

Why isn’t Trump blessing St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans with his law enforcement team? They have crime rates higher than DC and Chicago. Murder rates are higher than in the aforementioned cities.
