Remember, He is the Lord and He change not. Remember Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever Hebrews 13:8)! It has nothing to do with an animal being a scavenger or anything else. It has to do with thus say the Lord. He is the one that created us, HE knows what's good or not for His creation.

Let's continue;
These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. (Leviticus 11:9)
If the fish has fins and scales it can be eaten. And if it doesn't we can’t. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you. (Leviticus 11:10-12)

So, no shellfish. You know the lobster, the crab, crayfish, oysters, snails, shrimps, etc. Those of you that like to eat catfish, it must not be eaten. The catfish has fins but it doesn't have scales. The Lord Jesus says these creatures are an abomination onto you and they shall not be eaten.

Let's take a look at the fowl.

And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey, And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; Every raven after his kind; And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind, And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you. (Leviticus 11:13-20)

Those of us that like to eat duck; it is an abomination. The duck is in the swan family. Let's continue; Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. (Leviticus 11:21-22)

Those are the insects that can be eaten.

But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even. And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean. (Leviticus 11:23-26)

Note what the Lord says, "Whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even." If an individual touch the carcass or dead body of one of these beast, they will be unclean until sundown. They must wash the clothes that they were wearing and also bath themselves. Let's continue;

And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even. And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you. (Leviticus 11:27-28)

Note what the verse says, "whatsoever goeth upon his paws." Individuals that eat the opossum, raccoon and the squirrel. Those beasts are unclean unto you and must not be eaten or touch if they are dead. So we see clearly what the Lord deems clean and unclean, what shall be eaten and what should not be eaten. The Lord gives a clear description of the beats just incase we are not sure what a particular animal is.

Let, skip down to the 43rd verse, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHAT THE LORD TELLS MOSES!

I'm not sure how you miss that or do not understand. Please go back and reread it again.
here is what you said.

"Why does the bible seem to teach that the law has been done away with, if we must still keep the commandments? When the bible speaks of laws we no longer have to keep, it is speaking of the sacrificial laws."

No its not, you have discarded 600 laws and any laws the prophets mentioned.

We know that the sacrificial laws are small in number.

So how do explain yourself.

You annulled 600 laws, then turn around and say, we must obey the remaining 1%.

I cannot take you seriously.

You even call the ten commandments, moral law. What about all the other moral laws in the law of Moses?

There is a serious flaw in your interpretation of the scripture.

You have the wrong set of commandments also.

God doesn't want us to define His temple.
1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Knowing how bad pork is for my health i don't eat it. I try not to destroy the temple of God. I fail but thank God for the light He has given us.

You should read Romans 14.

Let's take a look at Romans the 14th chapter. Let's see if this chapter is actually giving us permission to eat anything that moves or is meat and drink used as illustrating tool to make a point. We will begin at verse one. Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. (Romans 14:1)

He that is weak in the faith? Hmm? How's an individuals faith increase? Take note;

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

Therefore by hearing the word of God our faith will be established; and if we believe, we will do what the Lord requires us to do. So, the individual in Romans the 14th chapter at the first verse which is weak in the "faith" is a babe in the Doctrine of the Lord. Also in that first verse Paul also states, "receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations."

In other words, accept this brother or sister but, do not agree with their uncertain arguments. Meaning, if this individual, who is weak in the faith hasn't obtained the correct concept of a particular scripture or verse, correct them, do not agree if they are incorrect.

For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. (Romans 14: 2-3)

Is this literal food? Or is the Apostle Paul giving us an example? Let's skip to the 15th verse.

But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. (Romans 14:15)

Sisters and brothers, how can an individual grieve or destroy another with his or her meat? What does Paul mean by, "Now walkest thou not charitably?" What is charity? The love of mankind correct? What is love according to the Word of God? Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law (Romans 13:10). Therefore if you walk not in the Law of God, and preach the Law of God, you can destroy and individual with your knowledge of the word. In other words practice what you preach. Take a look at what Paul says in the 5th chapter of Hebrews.

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14)

In Romans the 14th chapter Paul was not referring to literal food at all. He was simply using food for an example. Now, let's return to Romans the 14th chapter and see that he was in fact talking about the word of righteousness instead of literal food.

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17)

Now we see that Paul was simply talking about the doctrine of God using food as a form of instructions. We did not see one verse that stated, "Thus sayeth the Lord, I have changed my mind, you can eat whatever you desire, by the way, just pray over it."

To be honest you haven't show me anything. Show in the Bible where it says 600 laws. I showed you in the Bible where animal Sacrificial laws are done away with, which include the priesthood laws as well. All throughout the Bible it's tell you to keep the Royal Laws, which is the Commandments. The commandments of God are not hard to keep (I John 5:3) and furthermore, they teach us love in the highest degree. If you love Jesus you will keep his commandments (St. John 14:15). You will not displease the Lord by: Worshipping other gods, having graven images, taking his name in vain, breaking his Sabbath day (which is Saturday not Sunday), or dishonoring your parents. On the other hand, if you love your neighbor as yourself you will not kill him, commit adultery with his spouse, steal from him, falsely accuse him, or covet anything of his.

This is true love, and if obeyed how much better would our world be? This is why Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are loving the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind; and loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:35-40). These two commandments are the foundation of the entire law. Many reject the law, but it is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good (Romans 7:12) even today. When Jesus (the true Lamb of God) was sacrificed, he removed our past sins. If we accept Jesus as our sin offering, we are required to repent and get baptized IN THE NAME OF JESUS ("there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved..."(Acts 4: 12). This is our last chance Brothers and Sister.

To repent means to turn from our sinful ways and start obeying God's law. The water baptism signifies the washing away of our past sins. After repenting and being baptized in the name of Jesus it would be foolish for us to turn around and willingly break God's commandments. If we make an honest mistake Jesus can help us, but if we sin willingly, look out! "...there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation..." (Hebrews 10:26-27). When Jesus died only the sacrificial law was done away with, alone with Leviticus priesthood.

We still must obey all of God's laws and statues of conduct, from the ten commandments to the least commandment. We cannot choose to obey one without obeying the others. For instance, if it's still good to pay tithes (as many preach), then it is still good to obey God's dietary law (not eating pork, catfish, etc...Leviticus 11:1-47). Similarly, you cannot purposely trip a blind person (Leviticus 19:14) and claim to love your neighbor as yourself. Neither can you break God's Sabbath days (Leviticus 19:30) and claim to love God with all your heart, soul and mind.

Nice try though. Here's another example of how to treat the weaker brethren. It is obviously talking about the physical eating of food.

1 Corinthians 8
8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

Well, since you said it...

1 Timothy 4
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Let us take a look at Noah for a moment. Take a look at this verse in Genesis the 9th chapter and the 3rd verse.

Some one might say, "see we can eat anything that our heart's desire." Let us reason together brothers and sisters. Who wrote the book of Genesis? Moses, when he was moved by the Holy Spirit, correct? Who wrote Leviticus the 11th chapter? Moses! So, everything that was created to be received shall be eaten. Let us back up to the 7th chapter of Genesis. When I first laid eyes on these two verses, I was amazed how even the simplest thing in the word of God is hidden to those that do not read His book. Take a look at this.

And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. (Genesis 7:1-2)

Here we see the dietary law being instituted. Here we see the difference in clean and unclean being shown seven chapters from the beginning of the book. So, this lets us know that the dietary law was brought into being along side the Royal law (commandments) even before Abraham came on the scene. Now that we have seen when the dietary law was instituted and also looked at the dietary law itself.

Let's go into I Timothy chapter four and start at verse one. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (I Timothy 4:1-2)

In the last days the so-called people of God have departed from the true belief, and cannot be reasoned with. Yes, they truly have taken heed to doctrine of devils clinging to a dogma that cannot be defended. Worshipping a god that hangs on a Roman death symbol. When the true and living God, is sitting on the right hand of Power in the Third heaven, being very much alive. Now take note of the next verse.

Forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (I Timothy 4: 3)

First of all, note the first three words in the verse, "Forbidding to marry." Forbidding to marry has no part in the doctrine of the true and Living God. The first commandment given to Adam and Eve was be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. This same commandment was give to Noah, his sons, and their wives. In addition, I Timothy chapter 3 in verse 2 states, "a bishop should be a husband of one wife." Forbidding to marry is truly a doctrine of devils. So, where did this nonsense come from? Take note!

Celibacy is particularly associated with Roman Catholic priests, who are forbidden by canon law to marry. This requirement is distinct from the vow of chastity taken by monks and nuns, who choose a life of consecrated chastity and ratify their choice, by vow. After the Second Vatican Council (1960-65), the issue of celibacy was again debated vigorously with the hope of making it optional for the clergy. Popes Paul VI and John Paul II, however, reconfirmed the traditional teaching that celibacy should remain mandatory for the clergy of the Latin Church. Reasons generally given for priestly celibacy are promotion of single-minded dedication to the ministry and the need for freedom for prayer. 1Copyright (c) 1999 Grolier Interactive Inc.

As we can see, in-order to be a minister in the above organizations, it is mandatory that you remain celibate. It is not decided by the individuals own free will. This organization also abstains from meats that were created to be received during a period they call lent.

Let's return to I Timothy chapter 4 and start at the 4th verse. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. (I Timothy 4:4-5)

Every creature of God is good, but all are not created to be received. The beasts that are sanctified or set apart in the Word of God are outlined in Leviticus the 11 chapter and also Deuteronomy the 14th chapter.

13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

This is different, you can't connect this point to Romans 14 Chapter. This is literally talking about eating food that's offered in sacrifice to idols.

We did not see one verse that stated, "Thus sayeth the Lord, I have changed my mind, you can eat whatever you desire, by the way, just pray over it."
antiquated English aside, you are one of the best at eisigesis I have run across in a while...

What Romans SAYS is "14 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not to have quarrels over opinions. 2 One person has faith that he may eat all things, but the one who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. "

Please note the highlighted word.... Paul is saying that eating meat or not eating meat is in the realm of opinions.... NOT commands. To put it another way, those decisions are optional, depending on the conscience of the believer.

And nothing to be refused…

"Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them." Hebrews 13:9

In Romans the 14th chapter Paul was not referring to literal food at all. He was simply using food for an example. Now, Paul was in fact talking about the word of righteousness instead of literal food. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17) You see Paul was simply talking about the doctrine of God using food as a form of instructions.

Now Paul said in Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Now lets understand and reason together, Paul just gave us a run down on condition of sins. People who are behaving in such manner will not inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God, even those who are unclean. Being unclean does not mean a person doesn’t wash up, we are not talking about soap and water. We are talking about defiling the body and the mind, with unholiness or unGodliness.

Now Paul said in Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Keep in mind there was no New Testament when Paul and the apostles wrote these letters.

Let us return to the new book take note to what the Lord say to the scribes and Pharisees.

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. (John 5:45)

Well, modern day church people think Moses' laws are nailed to the cross. So, they don't trust in Moses, they trust in rev. X Y or Z. But, notice this; For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (John 5:46-47)

So, if you call yourself a New Testament Christian, and don't read and believe Moses' writings, how can you believe in Jesus? In conclusion sisters and brothers, this is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten. Leviticus 11:46-47 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Leviticus 11:44)

May the Lord add a blessing to the reading of His word in Jesus name. Amen.
