Liberal theology is that the progressive church?A word to the wise who seeks to make some sense of EVERYTHING here. Nowadays, it doesn't matter if it's a minister or new convert, many are guilty of leading astray with their liberal theology. Make no mistake, you don't have to be outside of "the closet" to fulfill His words (Luke 6:39). This misguided leading has reached a finely-tuned level of competence that has its origins from since the beginning of the Church.
The OP is talking to people who suffer from an obsession with unhealthy sexual thoughts and practices. He says oftentimes discipleship efforts to help these people are probably not enough and the person must find, on their own, and with the Lord's help, ways to overcome. He then goes on the suggest possible ways to do this.
An unhealthy lack of self-control can interfere with a good relationship with the Father. A person may know in their head they're a child of God, but can't connect on a meaningful level. He offers fasting as one method to quell the temptation. This may help some people, but for me personally it was no help at all. He says fasting will help us keep the flesh under our control; however, self-control is a gift of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit is the One who gives us control. It's really more of a mental problem than a physical one. That's why I said in my previous post that "snapping out of it" was really the only thing that ever helped me with the obsession. A compulsion or obsession is really just an unhealthy thought pattern that takes control of the mind.
Anyone who has struggled with compulsive or addictive behavior know exactly what I'm talking about.
what denomination are you from?Hmm i know i am late to this thread...but I just got to say.. i have found that going on a 10 day fast of all food has definitly curbed any sexual appetite I had. I lost all desire for anything sexual. Now i make it my practice to keep fasting..maybe its a biological result of not eating food..i dont know..but it seemed to work..it just didnt seem to work as much on shorter fasts.
Wonder what the thorn of the flesh was for Paul?what denomination are you from?

And I'm late to your's. As to the effectiveness upon the impulse, no doubt, it will vary for each person's quest for control. But MAN! 10-days? Did you go the supplement only route? I once went without eating nor drinking for a number of days and passed out in a heap loooong before that. But, I was also was an active bike-commuter (not at that time) back then. But, that was not the fast I spoke of in the OP. That one I learned was refraining from only one meal a day.Hmm i know i am late to this thread...but I just got to say.. i have found that going on a 10 day fast of all food has definitly curbed any sexual appetite I had.
