So... In todays world, (from my narrow point of view ) I've noticed there are many shades of grey when it comes to christianity (not saying those shades are anything new or old). But many choose to live this way or that way while holding the belief of the bible. Don't get me wrong, I know the body of Christ is supposed to have many parts. But, I find some theories questionable.

I'm just wondering, is it really possible to live like that and be at peace with God? OR are things as black and white as some say?

I'm told, in heaven, God is the only source of light and that there is no darkness.

If that's true, then why are so many living like the way they do? I know we've been given free will and that we fall short of the glory of God, but what does that really say about how we live our lives on a daily basis? Dosen't God call for us to be holy? To be at top of our game? To be the high standard christian that we're supposed to be? To be ready? To be as good as we possibly can be?

Every once in a while, when I'm outside at night and I choose to stroll and wander around the house. I often find my left foot in the shadow, and my right foot within the light. I can only look down at my feet and wonder where I'm standing when it comes to this walk in life.

I don't know... I have this natural way of complicating things for myself. Sometimes I wonder if the things that come out of my messed up head are even the right questions that should be answered...

As a christian (young or old) adult, how do you stay confident with the way you walk the narrow path?

I think many times the "shades of gray" thing comes from thoughts like this:
“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” ~ John Wesley

How do we remain confident? By diligently seeking Him and maintaining an open line of communication with Him; yielding to the Holy Spirit

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." - Hebrews 11:6

"38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. " - Romans 8

Reading the books of John, Hebrews and Romans always help me when I begin to feel distant or wonder whether I'm wandering off on a tangent of my own. I know you love the Lord, so I hope you find this helpful. :)

I think that the 'shades of grey' are man-made. When people start to feel like they'd rather not go along with what God wants for us, they start to make excuses for it that sometimes sound like reasons. Or they discover that a certain thing isn't mentioned directly or by name in the Bible, so they think, 'Hey, we don't have any rules against such-and-such, so why NOT do it?'

I'm not always confident in my walk with the Lord; some days are better than others. Some days I have too many questions and can't find clear answers, and some days all I need to know is that God is THERE.

The one thing I never doubt is that Christ died for our sins, and we are forgiven. Remembering that gives me the strength to keep going, whether I feel confident or not.

i love this most more than i can tell you.
i feel the same way. i see christians of all shades and colors- some for the Lord, passionate, ready to obey whatever they hear him tell them, yet there these little impurities in their lifestyle. like media or life habits. and i want them to have the same standard of purity (at least in my mind) that i do.

i want them to at least acknowledge the issue. but many defend their choices. whethet they are in the area of sexual purity, gluttony, or foul choices in what they watch and listen to. i feel that the deception of media is HUGE and when the word says the love of most will grow cold, it means it.

i believe many christians will be deceived and let the lusts of their flesh take the wheel over Jesus. but until that point, God is letting the weeds and the tares grow together. and only He knows our hearts.
He keeps guiding us and leading us even if we reject him multiple times.

i wish wish wish i could sit here and tell you about the different shades of grey in christianity. you have no idea how much. the lukewarms, the different denominations, and the supposedly LITTLE choices we make about how to live our lives on a daily basis. it hurts my heart how divided the church is. it hurts my heart we can't come to a mass agreement over the word of God. i believe in hinders many from seeing the truth.

but the way i believe God sees it is this "he that loves me obeys my commands"
you seem to be working out your salvation with fear and trembling.
you want to know what i think separates his bride from the general church? the ones who are clean and his and would be taken to the banquet table tomorrow if the rapture were to happen (not saying it will)

the ones who have a "yes" in their heart towards God.
we all stumble. in many ways. and not a single one of us is going to know the truth about God's word and teachings on every single point. i truly believe that. BUT, if your desire is to obey him with your love. and we say yes to him. i believe even when we say no with our actions and then repent, if our HEART has a "YES" to God, then we are truly His. and that is the only way i know how to tell the difference.

i think the only colors a believer should be are yes and amen.

I'm not sure what shades of grey you're referring to, Kooper, but many of them are man-made, like arguments over what day of the week is REALLY the sabbath . Some say Sunday, some say Saturday, God says that He doesn't care WHAT day, because the Sabbath is for US, not Him (can't remember where to find that verse....sorry :o). Anyway, it's important not to fall under the conviction of man, because many Christians like to feel more holy by making up a lot of rules that aren't even in the Bible. If you have accepted The Holy Spirit, then learn to recognize HIS conviction, because that's the only conviction that matters. The conviction of man is a constant nagging that you're not good enough for God, whereas the conviction of the Holy Spirit says "You did this wrong/need to change this area of your life". In my experience, the Holy Spirit is VERY specific in His correction, He doesn't want us to feel discouraged, but encouraged :). And, if I may say so, you are a very honest and conscientious guy. I suspect that self-doubt accounts for a large amount of your feelings that you are failing God. There is a verse for you, "happy is a man whose heart condemmeth not himself" (I think that's how it goes). Learn to block out any condemnation that is not from God, and you will be free indeed! :). All the best to you! -Nicole
