It seems that in human nature we often look for our way out of trial, out of pain. We look for someone to lean on, something to help us in easing the pain. Some may try to ignore it by staying busy, changing the subject or complaining until it just all goes away. We want to be pain free instantly. We don’t want to wait for healing especially if it means we have to go through some time in pain. But, If we knew that something good could come from the pain such as in childbirth, would we see pain and trials in a different view?
Jesus was acquainted with this all too well. In the garden of Gethsemane, we can only imagine the many emotions Jesus felt. Maybe He felt frustration while He’d told His disciples over and over that He would soon be arrested and crucified. How alone would we feel at that moment? Jesus found that He could not lean on His friends in His 2nd darkest hour. What might we think about this? If they believed Him, why weren't they more willing to stay on guard with Him? Why couldn't they wait up with Him in His hour of need? Yes, the Spirit is always willing and able, but it seems that those in the weakened condition weren't able to be there for Him. He, like a woman in labor (so to speak) and with no one holding His hand, went through the pain (mourning) intensely through the night into the next. But, we might also see the importance of it all, the incomprehensible Joy comes 3 days later….
Have you ever felt this way? At your darkest hour you’d hope someone had a cure, a word? At best someone might even hold the hand and as nice as that may be, we find the pain gripping the other hand. As Jesus leans in on and cries out to the Father…we also see that we must do the same. We must remember Him in Gethsemane. There He is strengthened to endure the cross, but the end result is faith birthed from trial and pain unto resurrection power! We testify that He is the only One that can save.
Hallelujah that we are never left alone. When we seek HIM, we shall be strengthened like our Christ through the working power of His saving Spirit.
