A marriage never took place by a priest or a religious ceremony although a priest might have been invited such as the one in Cana.

A young man seeking his love would have to meet the girl's father and contract would have to be agreed to. This was the most important consideration which was how much the bridgegroom would pay for this particular bride. This was called the bride price and hence the scripture--you were bought with a price. if the terms were suitable between the bride and father, the contract was ratified by toasting over a cup of wine. The price was no modest token, the young man had no delusions he was getting something for nothing.

After the agreement the groom would depart and he would make a little speech--like the scripture--I go to prepare a place for you!

This is the beginning of the story

The mystery of Marriage is revealed to us once beleive God in the risen Son for us, he paid the price, not us

Thanks great post as in John 3:12 physical analogies to bring home Spiritual realities

This was called the bride price and hence the scripture--you were bought with a price.
1 Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the
empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, / but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.

Hebrews 9:12 He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but He entered
the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, thus securing eternal redemption.

Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made
you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.
