Paul gave other reasons for not participating in idolatrous practices beyond seeing an idol is nothing:
- the sacrifices are to demons
- he did not want them to have fellowship with demons
- they should not provoke the Lord to jealousy.
Some people stop in chapter 8 and do not read through to chapter 10.
We shouldn't eat food offered to idols if we are told but we do not have to ask, for the earth is the Lord's and everything in it.
My thought is that the Devil is real, but Zeus is an obvious myth. I don't think that the Olympics would be considered demonic.
My question would rather be whether the years of training for the Olympics would be a worthwhile investment of the precious little time we have to prepare for eternity.

Certain Old Testament passages seem to indicate there are real entities behind pagan gods or can be. Deuteronomy 32 warned that Israelites would worship shedim (demons). Paul warned that those that sacrificed to idols sacrificed to demons and not to God.
It seems to me that many put throwing balls around games Gods. It should be a relaxing entertain to play these games, instead it is a leading "religion" in our country. I wonder if it doesn't take our money, instead of using it as God instructs us to do. Our newspapers even has a separate section devoted to sports, that is not true of newspapers speaking of news about religion.
