Should makeup be banned?

I know this is an old post, but it's a very interesting one so I'm contributing!

Personally I don't wear eye makeup often as I feel that I don't need it. Growing up I had a mother and father who told me that I was beautiful and don't need to wear makeup so that has instilled confidence in me. Whether I'm actually "beautiful" is up for debate by the people who are looking, haha.

Even so I had an older sister who wore makeup since she was 13. She doesn't need to wear it but it's a habit for her and most women who wear it every day.

However, I am an artist and I am attracted to physical change. I cut and dye my hair pink, blue, red, black, blonde and every other colour out there. I do own some nice mineral eye makeup in flashy colours so I like to play around and "paint" my face if there is a wedding or special outing or whatever. I've never worn makeup to church or bible groups yet as I feel that would be too much.

I also tend to touch my face and rub my eyes so wearing makeup just makes things messy (though it is a good way to train myself not to touch my face. It works 40% of the time...)

The feeling of makeup on my face can drive me crazy sometimes, I will admit.

I also suffer with acne, so I do wear coverup and foundation powder when I go out. Not to the grocery story or anything. Usually for social gatherings. I use Physician's Formula, which is very gentle and hypoallergenic.

So my thought: Lots and lots of makeup = gross and caky and can make you look greasy and old.
Natural light makeup during the day and dramatic fun makeup at night = OK in my books!
No makeup at all = even better, but for those who need a boost in confidence don't make yourself not wear makeup because you feel like you're selling out your gender or something.
 
I LOVE MAKEUP! I wear it everyday, and I wear a fair amount of it. I really don't care if people don't like it. I use it as a form of expression.
 
Not that it matters,but my 2 cents concerning make-up & the wearing of such...
1. 99% of women don't need it.
2. 75% of women who use it,use it incorrectly & more times than not,look either like a circus clown or a prostitute.
3. If you are ok knowing that nearly all the make-up you wear is tested on an animal 1st.
4. Test make-up on humans...if it makes them sick,who cares? They're the ones wanting to use it. Rabbits & monkeys are cool already with how they look,they don't feel the need to hide behind a disguise.
5. I can understand someone using make-up if they are hideously disfigured or scarred.
6. If you want to wear make-up & you cake it on & then try to kiss me or ask for a hug,more than likely I will refuse.
(I've had one too many good dress shirts ruined from church going women who are shorter than me,caked with make-up who leave what looks like a Mary Kay shroud of Turin on me)

Haven't worn make up since 97. Don't miss that mess at all, plus I look pretty good with out it!!!
 
I ended up wearing make-up only twice in my life. Hated it each time. I prefer to be myself without the powder. I am beautiful without it.

How do YOU know what the standard cosmetic look for a prostitute is, hmmmm?

I did accidentally spend about an hour with a prostitute when I visited Rio de Janiero last summer. (Before you say anything, I'll point out that I didn't KNOW she was a hooker, and it was nice to have a pretty woman act genuinely interested in me, so maybe I was slow on the uptake. It was on her fifth or sixth suggestion that we find a hotel, despite my having replied, "Nao, nao, celibato!" each time before...that's when it occurred to me that I'd spent the last 45 minutes getting to know a hooker.) All she looked like she was wearing was a little bit of eyeliner. *shrug*
 
Just so you know, not all Aussies are as rude the original poster of this thread. I'm so glad I came to the discussion late, I would've had a bone to pick with him (it's okay to have an opinion but don't try to ban everyone else's opinion).
 
Like I said, I haven't worn make up since 97, but I don't go around condemning others for wearing it. I don't believe a woman should wear make up. Why cover up the beauty GOD gave us. BUT, I wont go around pointing my finger at others who do wear it, cause I was one of those ladies too. Some ladies may have very good reasons too wear make up, even though I find it biblically wrong, but I wont preach at them. Not my job.
What I don't like is men wearing make up..... that's just nasty.....:eek:
 
I have to admit, after learning about skin tones and selecting the proper foundation and watching Michelle Phan videos I feel like I want to try it. O_O

You'd probably look really good with some lipstick and blush. :p


As to the topic at hand, I don't see anything wrong with makeup. I agree, you shouldn't over do it though, don't want to look like a clown, but makeup only enhances the beauty us girls have and I don't think that's a bad thing.
