Should the rich support the poor?

a side note- do a little research on universal basic income. this is getting pushed by a lot of the world's elite's .

Because the good Lord didn't put us on this earth to have us sittin on our butts receiving welfare. That's not what the Bible says. Able bodies on welfare is not in accordance with Scripture.

i fully agree with you


on average the people i meet who are on welfare have an "oh i have it so hard and im so oppressed but im still kickin... look at me" mentality


not all of them though
i will admit

if someone is truely unable to work

im happy when i hear they are being taken care of

also, our church helps not only in our community outreach system, but we also take care of our own members to a greater degree.

That care includes a study of their financial situation, a committee decision on what financial aid they HAVE to have immediately, then training in financial responsibility... teaching them how to create and live within a budget, so that the problem doesn't continue repeating, month after month.

The goal is to bring them to financial independence. If they have to be helped financially for several months to achieve that, it happens.

Although I haven't seen it happen recently, if a person/family refuses to change their bad habits, the financial aid stops.

We believe in being good stewards of God's financial blessings...
 
It is odd, but I have noticed that people who choose to live on the dole, also tend to tell you of the several "alphabet" disorders they have. (ADD, ADHD, OCD, etc.) It's a pretty consistent combination. I think it develops into a mindset of helpless dependency.

No, we are not heartless. What is heartless is taking advantage of other people's work. An able body should be working. If he or she are just too lazy, they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

my husband is a painting contractor, and has the contract at the local housing authority. sadly, he sees every day the expensive new cars as he parks his '98 Jeep. (that thing just won't quit, thank God!)

i think people get frustrated by the abuse of the system because it actually prevents people who NEED help from getting it. the system, as it is, positively encourages folks to not work. as Lynn was saying, if you're trying and just need a little help for a while, there's not much that can be done, but if you're willing to do absolutely nothing, you're in. :(

but my son and husband have also seen that the children raised by people totally dependent on welfare have nothing to compare it to. it's the lifestyle in which they're brought up, and there are precious few to tell them there's another way.

so, call me a bleeding heart, but i feel for those kids. it's one reason it goes on and on.....
Mark tries, where he can, to encourage the young ones to finish school, go to college (meh) or trade school (better) and start a business. two or three times in the past 30 years, he's been successful in that. :)

yes! it's the mindset that needs changing. do you get the feeling our gov't is actually trying to do away with the middle class??

(i'm a conspiracy freak atm. LOL)

I think both parties really only care about enough control over people to maintain their voter base in elections. They desperately want to keep their Cush jobs.

is this about the needy being fed


or about should the government dictate how the funds of workers are distrubuted to those who dont work


(not if these workers should share what God provides)



because you are abolutely right that those with SHOULD share to those without

Do you feel as I'm wrong in my statement in some way?
 
I watch people who do work scam customers or their boss in some way. Have nice things by dishonest gain.
If the topic is dishonest gain let's be balanced.

Plenty of fraud and abuse for Medicare and Medicaid are from physicians as well. Not abiding by anti kick back, stark law and false claims act.

Sorry I only ask that question because of what you said to me was it about the needy being fed or should a government dictate the funds.

though I'd like to hear your thoughts on these two since what I said spawned that thought within you.
 
Absolutely if you have and you are willing to support from your heart do it,support the need .second thought if you are rich in spiritual its good to spread the gospel to the people who dont know it i mean the poor,who never heard of the lord anytime.third,its not evil to be rich because if you work hard the lord is going to pay your hard work,being lazy as well lead to povert.its good for each of us to try and work hard .my thoughts

Good post I like how you mentioned being spiritually rich sharing with the spiritually poor, that should be the utmost importance in supporting. :)

being money wealthy doesn't mean one is evil, I agree, the account of Joseph the rich man who placed Jesus body in his own tomb is a great example of that.

i posted my thoughts already on the first page and this one i think;)



and i posted the distinction because your post was related more to the title question more than the OP


so if anyone else was only reading the title

and saw people saying "no"

the "no" is more than likely in relation to "should your earnings be spent how the government desires" or "on people who are capable and lying about it"
