Should we look for the good in bad situations?

If you look the post "The upside of down" you will see that there is a theme of God redeems bad situations and He makes good come from the bad.

My question is should we just let go and let God and wait for the good to come or should we take an active role in seeking out God's good works in a situation? If we are to actively seek the good how should we go about this?
 
I wouldn't think we should actively seek out the good, but we should actively act according to how we know we are to act. It's Gods role to bring good, not ours, but we can leave ourselves open to the possibility of being a vessel that He uses to bring that good about. Sometimes that may be what we do, sometimes we are bystanders, but long as we stay open and willing we are doing what we should be.
 
I say both. true enough we should let go and let God but to look through God's perspective and be able to see the good in the bad makes it that much easier to trust him and to be able to see past the bad situation and see what God intended it to be used for.
 
Romans 5:3-4 comes to mind.

Both - let go and pursue Him.

Perhaps we might try seeing people as Jesus did... with love.
 
A believer has the Holy Spirit. He gives you spiritual eyes to see, and seeking the Lord, walking in His light, which is behavior in His will, you'll usually know what to do, or not to do. Not everything we do will come out as we expect, even by best intentions, and we shouldn't be busybodies in other peoples' affairs, but we act, when we know to do right. Sometimes waiting is called for, too, when you don't know what to do, just be still, have patience and wait, until something resolute comes to you, praying for His wisdom and guidance. He is faithful.

The Lord Jesus socialized with all, was out and about, but He didn't willy nilly commit, knowing all men (John 2:24), nor call His disciples friends, until quite a ways down the line (John 15:15). Friends and enemies are different things. You love these differently, with respect to being integral, intimate, in your life. The Lord Jesus went to social events of mixed company, but He wasn't a "party animal," in the constant company of or in an entourage of sinners. You have peace with others, as best as possible (Romans 12:18). So, you love everybody as best you can, but you don't take everybody home with you. Also bear in mind the Lord isn't namby pamby, the sheep being separated from the goats and wrath coming. The Lord Jesus of the Bible is a very serious Man, not a Teddy bear. Anyway, don't pay attention to me. Read the gospels as to how the Lord Jesus went about, lots of details what to imitate.
 
He (Jesus) is the good in bad situations. He is the one we not only focus on, but we must actively interact with Him - first of all by telling Him exactly how we feel (aloud), and then drawing comfort from His presence.

He is a very real presence in times of trouble. He will share with you the words you need to hear. And He loves to hear you say "I trust you, Lord, with my life". I do ask only three questions:

1. How do you want me to respond to this?
2. Is there a way in which you can be glorified while I am going through this?
3. Will you show me what I need to be learning from this?

But most of all, I continually praise Him. Peace usually follows the praise.

P.S. What you learn usually comes after the crisis is over. When it is happening, you are only holding on to Him with all of your heart.

I think it is hard to see the good in bad situations, I won't lie. But for the believer, seeking Christ is the way to go in good and bad situations. We want things to be good, but sometimes the good takes our eyes of Jesus.

Can you rejoice in your suffering? That is what the bible tells us to do, so therefore, it is possible.

“More than that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:3-5

His Father's will? (If you can teach me how to do that, I'm sold.)
John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

Sometimes, even with God, there is no good to be found. My mother died a nonbeliever. No good in that. My dad isn't a believer and now has dementia. No good in that.

As for the good we get? It's to glorify God and worship him forever. All kinds of good in that.

Rom. 8:28: And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

i tend to forget the purpose. :rolleyes:

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

all kinds of good in that, too. :)

Gee, do you really know anyone who knows how? None I've seen on here.... especially those who claim they do.

So true, but then again, you have to agree, we can't do that just like Jesus, because the Father never gave us the inside scoop on who will be saved and who won't.
 
Let go and let Him have it. There will be many situations where we just will never know what the good is. We need to be thankful in ALL things, even when we do not see any good.
